[REQ]Sneakier Sneak

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 7:49 am

One of the things I really miss from Oblivion is how my character would slowly and quietly draw his weapon if I drew it while sneaking. It really added to my immersion.

Now, when I draw my weapon it makes the same loud "ring" regardless of whether or not I am sneaking.

An even bigger immersion breaker for me is how I will silently creep up behind my target, hit my power attack, and then my character yells "RAWR! HIIII-YAA!!" at the top of his lungs. It's ludicrous.

Anyway, I respectfully ask that someone PLEASE write a mod that does the following:

  • When sneaking (or muffled), make the weapon draw sound effect much quieter. Bonus if the animation is slower like in Oblivion.
  • Remove the frigging war cry when I backstab.

Wishlist items include more kill animations and accurate blood spray for throat slices, etc. Basically anything that makes backstabbing meaner/cooler looking without exceeding the bounds of basic "human" anatomy.

I don't remember my character ever yelling when attacking while sneaking in Oblivion. I haven't played a stealth melee character in Skyrim yet, so no idea if this has changed.

I'd +1 this request.

Being able to backstab someone while screaming without gettig the attention of another enemy 5 feet away is just wrong. I do like if the body falls and hits things(knocks items off table) this does seem to get others attention, but my battlecry will not.

The OP just told you that it has, right? To verify, yes it has, I also find this aspect of stealth very annoying. It doesn't alert anyone - NPCs ignore your battlecries - but it is disconcerting.

Yes, the OP said it, but they said it happened in OB too, and I'm 99% sure it never happened. But thankyou for verifying it, that does svck. In regards to the unsheathing, the sound in games for unsheathing a weapon doesn't really make sense anyway, I mean what do you have a metal sheath? It should barely make a sound.

Dragonbone: You read it wrong. He said it didn't happen in Oblivion, he was making a comparison saying that this one aspect of the stealth game in Skyrim is a step back.

I agree Tony. I really miss the slower weapon draw while sneaking. Something to add - I've noticed sometimes while they're being assassinated the npc will spit out one of their taunts. I'll be cutting his throat while he's telling me I picked a bad day to get lost, kinda awkward.

Yes, please. The screaming on stealth kill is very annoying. At least they never really hear you though.

I cleared a dungeon once with 100% stealth kills, without being detected. But that was a ton of screaming take-downs ;)

You read my mind! Just an hour or so ago I also noticed the quick unsheathing and loud KASHJINNNG when I got my blade out in stealth mode (prior to that I mainly relied on my bow). Then I recalled the smooth, slow and silent way my good old assassin from Oblivion drew his weapon. Made the entire procedure even more sneaky.

If someone could find a way to change the speed at which a blade is dwarn in stealth and change the loud unsheating sound to something more subtle, I'd be very grateful. :)

Not sure if the battlecries can be removed, but if they can when the character is in stealth it's all the better. Silent weapons and silent kills; I'd love it! :celebration:

EDIT: Whilst looking on Nexus, I found this by the way: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1117 (not sure yet what it does exactly, but the description sounds promising) :)

Hah!

They do this in EVERY movie and videogame it seems.

Fact: Blades do not make a sound when you unsheathe them. It just doesn't happen. My best friend is a swordmaker, and I've handled literally hundreds of blades, never once heard that *SCCCHHHWING!* sound when drawing one.

The sound they have on unsheathing comes from military sabres, which scabbards have ornamental metal casemants around the edges and at the mouth of the sheath. None of my blades except the military sabre make these kind of sounds. My leather sheath for a ring-pommel broadsword has a metal stud in it to connect it to the sword belt, but even there the sound is exceptionally muted.

Hey guys, thought you might want to see this: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1117

Despite the confusing file name, it's changes the sheathing sound played to something more realistic and stealthy.

Whoops! Miltiades beat me to the punch and I missed it. Sorry!

And while we are at it can the *gong* sound be removed when you make a sneak attack (atleast with a bow). I find it extremely annoying.
I agree with anything said in this thread previously.
