It then occured to me, hey, this guy would be a great candidate to become a blade. So I figured I would drag him to Delphine and see what she had to say about it. It was a great idea, all except he wouldn't come with me because Lydia already was my tagalong. Well, I can understand the game needing to limit your follower capacity, but perhaps upping it to just 2 would be nice. That way you can have one actual follower, and another quest/utility follower. That would be nice.
Absent that, though, I had another idea. I sent Lydia home, and took the tomb guy with me to Sky Haven. When I got there Delphine was happy for him to join up, and there it was, done deal. My friend was now a blade and Lydia is... oh. Lydia is at home in Whiterun. It kinda svcks that I have to travel all the way back to Whiterun just to bring her right back to where I am right now. What would be awesome, and exceedingly cool to boot, is if I could just send her a message.
I mean, there are couriers running around all over Skyrim. I've had a couple of messages delivered to me already. I tried to see if there was a way I could use them, but I don't think you can. It would be nice if we could. I could understand that this would be ridiculously complicated... but maybe it need not be. What if you ask a courier to deliver a message, and a window comes up like "What do you want to say?" Based on the NPC you picked, there would be some options on what message to send. Those options would correspond to written versions of the dialog options you would have had anyway if you went to speak with them face to face. Then they respond with whatever they would have said if you went there, and that's it.
So in the Case of Lydia, I could have sent her a courier to the effect of "Follow me, I need your help." The requisite traveling time later, she catches up with me.
Thoughts?
