Antialiasing and performance questions.

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 8:24 am

Hello,

I must admit that I enjoy Skyrim a whole lot more than i suspected, but I have some techincal difficulties:

- Antialiasing is reseting itself; after I set it properly, save changes and go back to options, antialiasing is inactive (as if i would not chose it)
- Performance question - I set everything on very high, and on my pc (GF 560ti, C2Quad 3600Mhz, 4GB ram) there are places (towns, mostly, but not only) when my fps drops to 28 - 30. Is this normal? Or is there something wrong with my system? (I have latest Beta Nvidia Drivers, and up-to date DirectX).
- Shadows are quite ugly, is there a way to make them better - looking?

Thanks for your time ;)

Your performance sounds right. Are you using "High" or "Ultra"? There is no "Very high".

Anti aliasing helps smooth edges so you don't get jagged lines. The higher you set this the lower your performance will be. Usually anything above 8xAA is hardly noticeable. You might consider trying Anti Aliasing or turning that off and using FXAA. FXAA can make things less "sharp" but should have a lower performance hit than standard AA.

Shadow wise, try adjusting the Shadow levels (Low, Medium, High, Ultra) and see what looks best to you.

I play @ 1920x1080 with GTX 470's in SLI. I get roughly 60FPS. So 28-30 in high detail areas with a 560Ti is probably right. We'll see better performance as nVidia has more time to tweak their drivers.

You can compare your game performance with Tomshardware's review of the game. They compared different graphic cards at different settings. :) See if your results are on par with theirs.

Thanks ;) But the problem is that antyaliasing is reseting itself after I set it properly - when i check again it is disabled. How to fix this?
