I have my ebony mail, and i have the Ebony smithing. When i bring it to a work bench it says i need one ebony ingot to upgrade to legendary, but it's still dim. Is it not able to be upgraded or did i mess up somewhere?

Do you also have the ability to upgrade enchanted items?

You either need higher smithing or try using items that increase smithing by x %.

Try to use a potion that increases your blacksmithing. The alchemist in Whiterun usually sells it.
