Why are shadows being rendered by the CPU?

May I ask why the shadows in Skyrim are being rendered on the CPU? This results in lowered FPS in areas where the CPU is handling other things (NPC paths, AI, etc) and also trying to render shadows. Also, it's probably the reason that the shadows look like crap unless you tweak the .ini - which simply further taxes the CPU beyond what its supposed to be used for.

Please, Bethesda, at least give us an option to render shadows on the GPU? My card can handle everything but shadows on Ultra settings at 60FPS but the second I kick shadows up to Ultra the game becomes unplayable because the CPU is being forced to perform tasks its not meant for.

This is likely something written into the game to allow consoles to run the game on medium smoothly. No I am not bashing consoles, I understand that drawing some assets with the CPU is a standard console hardware technique. My problem is that it is not standard for PC and most PC CPUs are not designed for rendering, we have powerful dedicated GPUs for that.

TLDR: Bethesda please allow me to render shadows on my GPU. Thanks.
