I've had the same thing happen to me. The most annoying part is that the game doesn't tell you that you have a disease, never mind which disease you have. It doesn't tell you what skills/attributes the disease effects. It doesn't tell you anything!! They should have kept this as it was in oblivion. I drank a cure disease potion but I aint got a clue if it worked. Am I missing something????

It does work the same as oblivion. You might just be ugly.

Though the alchemist in Whiterun will tell even healthy people they look sick. She's probably just trying to sell you something.
It will tell you on one of the menu screens which disease you have and the effects. I caught one and had everyone telling me I looked sick. Probably got it from a wolf bite? One potion and it was gone.
