Main Quest or Guild Quests

So Skyrim is out and I can't wait to play the game.

In Oblivion I ignored the main quest for a long time and just did everything else. I planning to do the same in Skyrim, but as we all know the ability to use dragon shouts is essential to the gameplay experience. As I understand you get the ability to "shout out" at one point or another in the main quest.

So, I wonder how you guys approached or going to approach the quest lines. Is it possible and still fun to tackle all the guild quests without being able to use dragon shouts or should I follow the main quest till the point where I'm able to learn dragon shouts and use them.

Please let me know what you think.

The main quest takes about 30 minutes for you to be able to shout. After that theres no reason in order to do main quest except to finish it (i think, not that far in). I'm having a blast going into random place and finding wordwalls. I already have stormcall and it is extremely fun to use vs a group lol

I haven't personally ventured outside an area around Whiterun and the mountain that High Hrothgar is on, I think the farthest I've been is a 10 minute walk away from Whiterun.

But basically I started the MQ, started doing miscellaneous quests for people, and started the Companions questline (who as far as I can see are pretty much the Fighters Guild with less restrictions). Pretty much if I have a quest that brings me far away, I wait until I get another quest from a different storyline that brings me around the same area or distance. Then I knock out two birds with one stone.

I've just finished the College of Winterhold quests and didn't do any of the MQ at all. I didn't feel like it held me back. Gave me good opportunity to level up my destruction skill ;)
