Armours

Hey guys, I don't have Skyrim yet as I'm getting it on my birthday in three days time. I've searched the web, and for some reason I can't find ANY explanation in any form at all as to what the Smithing perk tree means by 'Advanced Armours'. It talks about being able to create plate and scaled armours, but what in the world are these? Can anyone tell me?
Also, for anyone who may have already experimented with Smithing, I'm just wondering if the skill allows you to make new armours with new materials, or are you limited to simply creating the basic armours in the game (e.g. Elven, Orcish, Steel)? I was hoping you'd be able to make custom armours out of materials like Spider Skin or Wolf pelts.
There appears to be a disappointingly low amount of armours and weapon types, and if you consider the fact that Bethesda merged the Cuirass and Greaves, Skyrim has a smaller amount of variants than both Morrowind and Oblivion. :(
Help is much appreciated, thanks.

I actually just found steel plate armor, I do not know if it is different than Steal Armor... L o L... maybe I just upgraded my armor line and didnt notice it.

Feel as though AF is higher.

However, Scale versus Plate is all in design structure.

brits in braveheart versus robert the bruces helmet. ya... dig.?

Hmm, okay thanks. :goodjob:
So plate and scaled armours are just variants of the armour types already in the game. Can anybody else confirm this?
Also the question remains, can we create unique armours that aren't already in the game with materials we find in the world?
