A possible fix for both the flashing and maybe the XY-axis s

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 9:19 pm

Okay, so you've disabled V-Sync and Mouse Acceleration, but now you've got 2 new problems: Flashing in the sky/water while walking, and disproportionate mouse speeds when you have high FPS.

You've probably tried newer gfx drivers, etc. Okay, so this COULD work with fraps, but you'll expire your harddrive with recording.

Download Dxtory(or Bandicam, but I haven't used it), wait the ten second startup time(free trial delay, that's it) and in the Advanced section, check the box with "Limit FPS" like so:

That's all you need. You can disable any overlays in the other tabs. F11/F12 snapshot and record, but you won't be needing those.

EDIT: Limit the FPS to 100-120. You get a scrolling scanline of sorts if it's at 60.
I might try 59 FPS later but 100 works fine for me.

The kind of flickering/flashing I'm talking about is here:

edit: For what it's worth, this is my system:

Intel i7 950
Nvidia GTX 470 (tested 3 drivers, now using the latest beta)
12GB ram

Yes, limiting FPS helps a little bit, but since it's impossible to get any kind of stable FPS on some systems, (Mine would fluctuate between 20 and 120 fps) the vertical mouse speed will remain fracked until they patch it. Currently limiting at 60 FPS, and it's a bit of an eyesore :|

Why is it an eyesore?

Try 50, 59, 80, 100, or 120.

this fix is mainly for Stopping the game getting to absolute high fluctuations, when you enter a room for example, its targetted at having a somewhat stable mousereaction, UNTIL bethesda gives us an option for hardware mouse support ( wich should be in the game at release tbh)

The game really needs an "fpsmax" setting in the ini file.

e: speaking of fpsmax, someone got back to me today:

I'll definitely discuss the suggestion with folks on the team.

Thanks

So there's that. I wouldn't get your hopes up but They Are Aware.

Thank you for the tip, it resolve all my problems.

I can now play with maximum graphics options via the. Ini without any worries.

I finally discovered the game in a much better day.

It doesn't fix the problem of people with large fluctuations of FPS depending on where they are. Indoors, a really high FPS can make your mouse-look sensitivity nausea-inducing. Outdoors, when your FPS drops really low (IF it drops really low), say around 30-40 (even 50), you will notice a sudden and drastic decrease in vertical mouse-look sensitivity. Looking up and down can become quite tedious. So really this method only helps put an upper cap to avoid oversensitivity, but doesn't help with the whole vertical-sensitivity-attached-to-FPS thing that shouldn't even be an issue.

Plus, there are others reporting high FPS can create it's own issues, particularly where the physics engine is involved. One player reported he was nearly killed by a flying spoon when he entered some edifice. The higher your FPS, the more dangerous household objects become, since another unrelated bug is causing the physics engine to violently heave objects every time you enter certain cells, and the higher your FPS, the faster and harder the objects assault the player.

This may help some (and I hope it does!), but it's still just a stop-gap measure, and this really needs a true fix from Bethesda.

I don't know why you're lecturing me on high fps issues when i'm suggesting an fps limiter :/

and yeah when your fps dips, your mouse gets slower, but that's not what i'm fixing.

Going to try it.

Damn, no go. Even put it under Display and no change, also with different numbers. I think it's on the right lines though, there must be an ini. tweak for it. I don't want to have another program running to run a game.

Yeah, ifpsclamp is being suggested because fallout 3 used it but it's a no-go. Markarth is intensive on my system and lol, looking at certain things slows down my mouse.
