Request For Pure Mage Guide

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 6:03 pm

I'm looking for a way to get a pure Mage build,

Something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmjCerj4Ze

Been playing for 3 hours and my destruction skill won't level up quick enough.. so won't my other skills.
Really looking forward to perks and dual casting.. and new spells.

Thanks.

3 hours and you haven't gotten dual casting yet? What level are you? You just burn/freeze/zap things and your skill should go up.

I'd also like a mage guide.

Mostly feeling unsure where to put my perks so I've saved four of them now and i'm level 8.

Tip, raise every kill as a zombie to steadily increase conjuration.

Leveling mage skills is a bit more troublesome, as they now need to actually take up mana and hit a target to raise your skill. I would consider dropping gold into training some of the more frustrating schools(enchantment, restoration) but otherwise it's just time.

For a pure mage you just have to watch your magicka. Learn simple illusion spells and use them to initiate fights and control enemy aggression, then tie them up in combat with each other or with summoned creatures and blast the whole thing with as much destruction as is safe. Keep some for an emergency Calm or Ward to save yourself from spells. Beyond that, exploit wildlife to raise spell levels(burn bear near to death, calm it a few times, heal it back to max, burn it again) enchant everything with magicka regeneration, soul trap everything.

At the very start, when running from the Keep to Riverton to meet [Havdar's uncle, Roflar's ...woman relative?] you pass 3 standing stones on the side of the mountain path (You're going downhill)...

Activate the one to get boost to warrior/fighter skills.
Activate the other to get boost to sneaking/thief skills.

The third one you can activate, gives boost to mage skills. Activate that one, and that one only. Only one effect from one of the 13 standing stones at a time.

That should help you level destruction fast.

On the topic of pure mages, because of the way wards and soul trapping works, I'm getting the idea that you really need restoration and conjuration to be a successful mage. Is this true?
