Only 5 types of Light Armor Vs. 7 types of Heavy Armor?

I dunno. The only plate or scale armor I've seen is Steel. Seems like a waste of a perk if you can only make 2 extra armors.

there is plate armor and scaled armor + elven and glass
and you need one less perk point to get to dragon armor, if you go the left way

I thought you needed to have both Daedric smithing and glass smithing to get to dragon?

Well, it makes everyone feel better, there seems to be 2 different "models" of armor that can be smithed. (5 types of light armor x2 = 10 different looking sets of armor)
