I can't be the only one who hears this strange Buff German accent.

Some of them sound like Arnold Schwarzenegger, the rest sound like Arnold Schwarzenegger mixed with that Latvian Orthodox priest from that Seinfeld "Kramer/kevorka" episode. None of them sound like Stallone.

Most of the Nord males have some level of Scandinavian accent. I'm assuming it's to keep them differentiated from Imperials, Bretons and Redguards.

Yea, It's Ahhhnold. ;)

OP, are you actually complaining or just making an observation? If you're complaining, fire up Oblivion for a few hours, in which 5 actors did the majority of voiceovers in this game, so that you're constantly hearing the same voices over and over. After a few hours of this, Skyrim's guards might not bother you so m uch.

If you're just making an observation, that's coo. I like the guard voices in this game. Reminds me of Ahhnold, and that makes me smile.

In my mind, every bulky fantasy character is Conan anyway, so this just adds to the immersion.

Last I checked (as in a few minutes ago, playing the game), the guards aren't actually speaking with Austrian accents. People (read: Americans) who don't know a lot about accents tend to lump every European accent together, and Arnold is an easy point of reference, because the accent's placement is similar. Just like the Slavic countries would be called "Russian-sounding" by most Americans.

No, there's some obvious Scandinavian accents and some obvious Conan accents. There's no lumping; it's a pretty obvious nod to Arnold when you hear it.

I havent been to any of these contries, so i just assume it's what some may sound like when talking English, rather than their native tongue.

Not true. Some of the accents are indeed more scandinavian, however there are both eastern european and austrian/german accents. It seems to me that it's the developers that've done the lumping together..

Considering that accents vary depending on geographic location, Its kind of redundant saying that its Scandinavian or Austrian/German.

Those are very different accents even thought they are countries really close to each other. They don't sound any thing remotely similar and most would guess 100 out of 100 which is which.

Its not Swedish accent that's for sure, maybe Austrian

The guards sound nothing like Arnie and doesn't sound very Austrian to me. They sound a bit dutch or Afrikaans imo. The guy speaks english really well so it's not that obvious what the accent is. Pretty sure they were deliberately making the accents ambiguous also.

I just stood and repeatedly talked to a guard for like 5 minutes. It's absolutely amazing the amount of dialogue they have.
