Light Shields

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 6:04 am

I can think of some uses for a shield, especially with a light armour tree and some need for defending, but the question is?
Does anyone on this forum actively uses a light shield in any of their setup/approach to the game?

I dont...

I ask this since I was thinking of changing them all to Heavy Armor in a mod to at least add to the mix and variety of a possible upgrade path.

Wrong section needs to be in general discussion. Also yes I do use a light shield from time to time.

Its not in the wrong section but thanx for your input. I am tempting as the last line says to make a mod (a smithing mod, to be clearer) where shields are made HEAVY for the sake of a better progression in terms of shields when crafting.

My assassin uses a light shield. I am sure plenty others do as well.

Cool, I have the feeling I just dont see it as a piece of gear to carry around when stealthing or wielding magic (tho with magic makes more sense).

I have an enchanted hide shield that negates 40% flame damage. So I carry that thing around a lot - otherwise, no. I find them rather pointless for my ranger/assassin.

My theif assassin has an enchanted glass shield to fall back on in close combat :) edit: i very much dislike dual wielding because there is no block option.

Thats my point, I am debating wheter the benefits outweight the negative side of it (not using it at all). Since some of the shields if made to "be" heavy could fit some nice upgrade paths on a possible blacksmith mod. Town Guards shields are already Heavy while they all use light armour.

There's nothing wrong with a light shield, my battlemage character carries one with a resist magic enchantment for some of the difficult mage fights in the game. I don't focus on blocking or spend any perks in it, but for a 4 lbs. carry weight you get an occasionally needed enchantment slot(s) and potential life saving block in a tough battle. Seems a worthy trade off to me.

Yeah the weight seems like a good point, since you could do exactly the same with a heavy shield but with it, being basically heavier.
Tho it would mean they exist solely for the purpose of being lighter, not necessarily for any other matter.
Bear in mind I am gathering some other points of view. I am assuming all points to be perfectly valid to be honest.
