So here I am, finally a conjuration master and yet I still cannot have a permanent undead bunny minion! What's up with that?!
So I suggest a (probably) simple tweak allowing the Dead Thrall spell to work on animals as well as people. Though this might only be possible with the CS.
Only reason why they may have omitted this ability is animals going through doors?
What do you guys think; Good idea or bad?

Well, you can temporarily resurrect other animals so..... I don't see why it would not work for the death thrall spell.

Which is why it's even stranger that it doesn't.

Probably because of larger targets like giants and mammoths. Though I can't see why they wouldn't simply have manual exclusions, instead of just throwing in a "humanoids only" rule.

I'd love to have a couple of chicken thralls! LoL

I'd also have them make the humanoid groaning sounds that the resurrected make.
