I recruited Uthgerd the Unbroken and for some reason, she disappeared when I fast traveled to Dragonsreach. I eventually found her back at the Bannered Mare, but when I tried to recruit her again, she refused. I tried it on Lydia as well and she also refuses to follow me. Is there a way to fix this? Does anyone know any console commands to rid of any followers in your party?

I'm having the same issue, Jenassa disappeared and reappeared in the Drunken Huntsman. I cannot recruit her (and she's not wearing/holding any of my gear I gave her) because she (and every other companion) thinks I am already with a companion. I have searched the web and found neither the command to reset companion status to nil nor the command key for Jenassa in order to teleport the bugged NPC stuck in the world). Please help!

Yeah, I looked around online and I could not find anything about this bug in the game. Hopefully someone knows what we can do to fix this problem.

Messing around with console Help (Help follower 0) I have found that my settings for "PlayerFollowerCount = 1.00" but now I can't figure out, and cannot find on this forum, any way to reset/edit playerfollowercount.

Alright so I actually found a way to reset the followers. I did a quest for the Companions which required an NPC to be there with you. After completing the quest, I was able to recruit followers again. I do not know if it is the quest that bugs out the game or not.

I've been having terrible issues with followers as well. Often times they will freeze up after combat or they will get stuck on the terrain went running places. The first time I had a follower vanish completely was during a battle with a dragon. It was the girl from Dragonsreach, I saw her get incompacitated and roll down the stairs of the tower I was on top of and after I killed the dragon I went to look for her but she was no where to be found. Fast traveled to Dragonsreach to see if she would show up, nope. Went inside to see if she was hanging out inside, nope. She completely vanished. I went and grabbed the follower Uthgerd to see if that would trigger the other one to respawn, that didn't work either. Later after fighting another dragon I went into beast form and ran through a shortcave where she attacked me, I didn't kill her I just ran out of the cave. After I exited Uthgerd had returned to the cavern.

I would like to have a little more control over the followers in combat, like having a quick function to tell them to switch between ranged and melee because often they get stuck in ranged mode and they just stand there doing nothing while a dozen NPCs gang up on you.

I feel like a total noob but I ran into the same solution. My brother happened to be on the quest for the Companions, the same one as me, that replaced my Jenassa with Varkas. The game just was not clear on how this happened, and my brother showed me that Varkas (or whatever the Companion's name is) is out at the spot you're supposed to dungeon-crawl. My companion, and all my loot, were ready-to-hire as normal after completion.

Hopefully Bethesda can add a bit more for the followers. Don't know why they did not use something similar to the companion wheel from New Vegas. Hopefully the patch that is coming out soon will fix up most of the big issues with the followers.

I am having a issue as well, I have responded to most of the threads on this. I can not find any way of fixing it.

if there was a console command to target your follower that might help.
If I had the Id of the person who is supposedly my follower I could try killing or disabling him or her and see if that fixes it.

This does not seem to be a isolated issue and is across both the PC and PS3 from what I can tell, likely the 360 too.

There might be a way for a PC user to fix it using the console, but I guess those on the PS3 or 360 are screwed until its patched officially.

On one of my long treks I lost Lydia, did not even notice at the time.

Anyway I started back the way I'd came because it was the wrong way to where I wanted to go, thanks to the mountains. And I came across a character stood up on a large rock, thought it was a bandit so stealth fired arrows at her. Her heal regenerated fast, anyway it turned out to be Lydia. Tried to get her to follow she even said she would but she would not move. So left her there, when I got some distance away from her she caught up with me. Guess I'd gone out of range and she just appeared near me.

Sometimes better off with out the companion anyway as the AI does not seem that bright.

The thing some of us are having trouble with is that we do not have a follower at all, and are not able to hire one because they think we do.
Then in my case its causing me to fail a quest before I can start it because the person will not follow me, it won't dismiss the old follower and hire the new one.
