Companions questline glitch

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 10:43 am

I'm sure this has already been brought up somewhere, but I'm gonna say it anyways. I have come to the part in the Companions quest line where Kodlak is killed by the Silver Hand, and it says I have completed the mission, but it will not give me the next one. Everyone seems to be frozen in time and they just keep repeating the same things when I approach them. I had just sought other missions hoping this new patch might fix the issue, but no luck and there isn't a chance I'm loading a save from 20 hours before. I had also already finished the mission to find the Helm of Winterhold that takes place at the same location, so that isn't interfering. Any idea of what to do would be much appreciated before I angrily throw my controller through a wall.

Only thing I can really think of is wait, and try some other quests. I was able to complete the companions quest with no bugs. But stuck on the civil war quest because I cant buy a house in windhelm.

Im having the exact same problem, really annoying. The only thing that will fix it i think is when they release a patch.

Same thing happened to me. This was the second time I hit a questline halting bug and gave up on this one as the save I would have to go back to do work around it was several days ole The

Did you finish the Helm of Winterhold quest already? The problem seems to be that if you do the Helm of Winterhold quest before the Companion's Purity of Revenge (which take place in the same dungeon), and the "boss" of that dungeon is killed before you start Purity of Revenge, then Purity of Revenge will never start and you won't be able to do any more companion's quests until they fix it.

Someone reported that attacking the companions until they start chasing you then running to a guard to pay a bounty fixed it. I tried that and it didn't work for me. The PC players can use a console command to reset the quest trigger, but as far as I know, if you have cleared that dungeon where the Helm of Winterhold is found before starting Purity of Revenge on the 360, you are out of luck until they patch it.

Yep, I cleared the damn place out. I read if you wait 30 days or something the enemies respawn, but I don't know if that's true for the boss.
