What elements and strategy went into designing enemy AI?

I've been following this game ever since I first found out about it on Game Informer, and it immediately piqued my interest. I've been so impressed by everything sofar that I genuinely believe there is massive potential for an instant all-time classic.

However, i believe one element that can propel or hold back is enemy AI. Obviously, and hopefully, the AI is intelligent, diverse in actions and challenging. Has anybody come across any info pertaining to this? And what are you hoping to see implemented?
