Texture Mods breaking Archive Pathing?

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 11:36 am

I've noticed that when I install a texture mod to try it out, then decide not use it, I get random texture mispathing. I checked my system.ini in My Games/Skyrim and it looks ok at least to me. Below I have two images as an example, so you can see how the texture seems to just be missing and just leaves a light blue object in the world. I didn't put this in Troubleshooting since it's caused by use of mods.

I've tried google and there are a couple of instances of light blue and missing textures, so I'm not alone and thought in past games we just Archiveinvalidated. I keep reading we don't need it anymore but here we are, with broken pathing. If we don't use ArchiveInvatlidated, does that just leave reinstalling?

This game bare bones stock has texture issues. It is not consistant though. You can play for hours then suddenly see purple or yellow objects everywhere. Then you mostly crash shortly afterwards depending how bad the load was. It`s something they need to fix along with other bugs.

This helped me when I had some issues with the 4gb exe running on ultra settings. In Steam, right click on Skyrim and get properies. On the Local Files tab click Verify Integrity of Game Cache. Steam will then check for modified files and redownload them as necessary. Whether or not this is useful in your instance I'm not sure, but its worth a shot :)

Thanks for the tips. :)

The cache doesn't seem to make a difference, at least there is no way to tell. The way to fix it, is just to save and restart the game, until it does it the next time.

At least it's a very nice shade of purple. :P

But yeah, I've noticed some odd behaviour with textures too - sometimes they load fine only to randomly disappear later, and then reappear if you restart the game.

Try using http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1013 if you're not already. I had similar issues after installing small texture replacers and it took care of the problem.

This problem has been associated with the exe allocated memory cap of 2 gb. Using the LAA launcher has fixed the issue with a lot of people (myself included) Its also a precursor to the inevitable CTD, at least for me.

Correct. I had the same problem like that screenshot of the purple trees and 30 seconds later I got a CTD. After the 4GB patch I haven't had this issue so far.
