I made a post yesterday about a section of the game where it would always freeze in the same spot, this being during the encounter with mages fighting draugers during The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller quest. Now after hours upon hours of trying to find a way around the freezing something occured to me. Every time it would freeze would be when several spells were being cast. Naturally I first thought that it was perhaps a graphical issue, but then I remembered an issue waaaay back on morrowind where the game would sometimes crash because of a glitched soundfile. So this morning upon waking I immediately went back to my game and loaded it up at which point I proceeded to completely turn off effect sounds. Low and behold the game no longer froze in that spot and I was able to continue the quest. Now I can happily Fus Ro Dah Lydia off a cliff.

In conclusion I fully believe that this was the cause of the problem, though I admit it could entirely be coincidence. If it's not a coincidence and this is truely a solution then I hope this can help other people who are stuck in quest lines because of freezing like this.
