[RELzWIPz] Arachnophobia

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 6:45 pm

http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2927

  • Name: Arachnophobia
  • Version: 0.90 (this one's going to take some fine tuning to get just right)
  • By: JustinOther
  • Description: Alters the relevant LVLN, NPC, and ACHR records to spawn a variety of other foes in spiders' places. If, for example, there's a spider cave, there will be a dead spider or two and a more powerful foe(s) like a troll or wolves to explain why they're dead.
  • Future:Several more refined versions will roll out over time and after the CK's release.
  • Install: Unpack and place the plugin in Skyrim\Data, then load with your your launcher or favorite load order tool. Please back up your save(s), just in case.
  • Uninstall: Delete the file or untick it.
  • Rights: I'm a lefty. Do ...whatever.
  • Thanks: Beth for the game and Elminster for *Edit.

Note: This was to fulfill a promise I'd made before Skyrim's release. I don't play with this plugin 'cause I'm not afraid of spiders, so fine tuning of it will require feedback. If you encounter a living and/or aggressive spider, please note its FormID with your console using the '~` for any bug arachnid reports.

My sister is deathly afraid of real spiders in real life, so I've become accustomed to creepy-crawly removal. This should fit in better than the *goofy bear mod.

*all due respect to its creator, but http://static.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/images/28-1-1321027276.jpg is just absurd!

Indeed, it was a good quick fix, but ultimately a less-than-ideal hack. I like how this makes the spider replacements fit in so immersively.

My girlfriend is also mortified by spiders, so I know the feeling of living with an arachnophobe. :P

"Bug report"? Should be arachnid report.

Anyway great mod for people who can't stand creepy crawly's. You should add an option to replace the Chaurus, they are a little creepy to.

*knock on wood* I played with it for a few days and didn't encounter anything that seemed out of place.

Yeah, I, as an advlt, share an apartment with my sister and she's still afraid of spiders. I usually just pick 'em up and put 'em by the lamp outside my front door so they can kill off all the crane flies.

Ha! *amends OP*

Chaurus removal: Perhaps when the CK comes out. This plugin is the husk of a Skyrim.ESM copy, gutted of all but the relevant records. Suffice it to say it was no cakewalk to make.

Let us hope you never encounter the scariest thing ever, a backward flying dragon! That is terrifying.

I saw one of those, but he kept running away from me. Apparently I'm even scarier

At this point I'm tempted to make an "Everything is Spiders" mod. Or at least, I would be, if I had the PC version and the CK.

And disguise it as something else.... like a spider remover mod.

I don't get peoples fear of spiders, I love them, they eat the bugs. As such I FULLY endorse the above idea.

It should be subtle though. It should work as intended and then slowly NPC's start to change into spiders, when you are running past them. You stop, they change back. Finally at a set point, everyone is a spider and you get attacked by a giant ancient spider while they all laugh.

A phobia is an irrational fear, therefore it is impossible to understand. It's a deeply-rooted psychological reaction that has nothing to do with logic.

Yah. While there may be some poisonous varieties of spider, and thus a fear of spiders may have some evolutionary advantage the fear is illogically disproportionate. Where the person will freak out at a PICTURE of a spider, yet happily stand next to a tiger enclosure in a zoo even though the tiger is an infinitely greater threat.

The bear replacer mod is an ultimate example of that... placing spiders (Harmless?) with BEARS?! (One of the few creatures on earth that can and DO eat humans). Being afraid of spiders but not bears is not a beneficial evolutionary trait ;)

Evidently, someone did make a prank plugin that made spiders larger according to someone's comment on the Nexus. . I'd only do something like that on April 1'st or opposite day.
