Temporary workaround for data fixes (quest, funky npcs, etc)

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 9:29 am

Since Bethesda stated they will be releases little to no quest fixes until January, those with game breaking bugs are somewhat doomed to either wait or start over. Fortunately there is a workaround but it requires a moderate amount of effort.

Most things such as certain quest that cannot be completed, missing npcs, being stuck in an area, missing items, etc can be easily fixed through the console command. Unfortunately console users don't have this luxury but... What a lot of people don't know is you can actually transfer save across platforms. Yes! You can transfer your Xbox save to your PC, fix/edit whatever you want to, then transfer the save back to play on your Xbox. This would also mean you either need to obtain a copy Skyrim for PC or just find a friend that has the game on PC.

I won' go into details here on how to transfer the saves, its quite easy and you can read about it here:
http://gamethingdaily.com/2011/11/19/xbox-360-skyrim-saves-transferrable-to-pc/

Keep in mind:
That when you do edit stuff on PC through console command do it through a unmodded Skyrim client or you risk things bugging out when you transfer the save back to Xbox
Make back ups of your saves before you edit them!
This will not fix coding bugs, such as textures, weird AIs, back pedaling dragons... etc

Bloody hell! Microsoft know everything! Am I allowed to pull off those clear protective strips that cover the disc tray? Or will that get me banned also?

Im just being a force of reason and warning people to do it at their own risk. MS has no problems banning people for tampering/cheating/etc

Since it is a one player game I think the only thing MS could possibly care about is cheating to get Achievements...

Tampering is tampering regardless if its multiplayer or single player, if there is a way for them to detect it and they do, then they can and usually will ban you outright for tampering, GS cheating is another thing they usually give you another chance but you are branded a cheater.

Just because it hasnt happened doesnt mean it cant or wont happen. When someone posted how to remove 1.2 and revert to 1.1 on the xbox forums the thread was deleted and had the info that some of the programs needed (including one that messes with saves) is deemed to be tampering tools so if they do or can find a way you tampered with the save, they can elect to ban you for ToU/CoC violations.

Then how is it that no one has been banned for using 3rd party option files for PES?

I dont know how the detection works with MS so I dont know but just because it happens doesnt mean its ok to do. I violation is a violation no matter how many people may be able to fly uner the water. If you want to risk it fine, its not my place to stop you, but do at least want to warn people what could happen if MS detected it and the consequences of such.

Stop spreading bullsht lies, they absolutely will NOT ban you for editing saves on a single player game. They're not going to waste time and resources banning people who wish to change they're single player experience. If what you're doing somehow jeopardizes the integrity of their servers or other players multiplayer experience (such as cheating in a multiplayer game) Then yes they will ban you if caught. No one cares what you do when you're on single player. People have been doing this for oblivion and other games for years, no one (to my knowledge) has ever reported a ban.
