TESO combat possibilities

Post » Tue May 22, 2012 6:07 pm

With all the arguing going back and forth about combat, hotbars and tab targeting or better put, lock on targeting, i figured it would be good to just make a whole discussion about the topic.

We know almost nothing at all about combat in the game, except it will most likely be 3rd person view combat with a hotbar and "tab" targeting system. That still tells us absolutely nothing about how the4 combat will actually play out, for all we know it could still be real time fighting even with these systems in place, and actually most real time combat mmorpgs we have still use lock on targeting to an extent as well as hotbars.

Tera has real time combat, but also features a lock on target system (or tab target system if you want to say it that way) as well as a hotbar for skills and spells.

Mortal Online: A first person only real time combat mmorpg also uses a hotbar system as well as a target system.

Im not saying TESO will have something like this and im not holding my breath expecting it to have it, but for all we know (which is very little) it could have real time combat and still have a hotbar and "tab target" system.

I would like everyone thoughts on how the combat system could play out and how you feel it should be.

I've been playing a game from a smallish publisher called Din's curse that sets your target to whatever your mouse is currently hovering over. It took some getting used too but it seems to be a great deal less annoying than tab targetting in say Everquest 2 whose targetting system is just unpredictable enough to plain irritate someone trying to tank. It might be pretty annoying for healers though. I think healers seem to gain the most from more static targetting. And that's if they haven't modded the game to minimize targetting altogether such as I usually did with wow where I had all my heals mouse-bound and my party, raid, target, and target's target boxes were all set up for click to cast,.

In WoW you can use your mouse to pick your target as well. Tabbing is just more convenient.

Personally I don't care if it's tab target or manual target.

I just want to see player characters be able to use both class abilities and weapon skills. As a Warrior, I want a taunt or something, but I also want a weapon skill that does extra damage.

Hey i actually freekin agree with you for once !

Seriously though i would have loved for it to have combat much like Mortal Online or Darkfall Online, but i love TES so i will take the combat however they dish it out.

I would be perfectly happy if TESO emulated and then refined FFXI's system.

Tab target, macro/hot key system, auto attack, classes had abilities, weapons had "Weapon Skills."

Basically WoW, but battles were far too drawn out.

I think an FFXI/FFT + Disgaea (Weapon Skills) + TES = Probably the best TESO class system and works for combat nicely.
