Concerning Crafting, player economies, and looted vs crafted

feh~ anyway if this team is already saying "Technically not feasible to do Player Housing" or "Technically not possible to improve on existing MMO Graphics"
Then i dun suppose they'll do anything else other then the "AFK will making 9999 of the same items" style of crafting.

About crafting an Epic Drop - would the original enchantment be lost, or are you wiping it clean and adding a different enhancement altogether?

And on crafting siege weapons, if that's the case - I could see making a battering ram as the first thing you craft. And the way you would do this is by visiting the wood work shop, clicking on the long solid log that's laid out at one of the stations. (Or any stations, workbench, whatever) You choose which blueprint to work on. It loads your progress on how much you've shaved off of your log and you take 'shots' at refining your battering ram. 'Shots' or attempts will only provide you success based on your level, (possibility of failure on attempts will cost you the materials you paid for to make this ram) and you slowly cut your log up. Multiple people can use the same hub for their crafting, the game will only show you as you work the station. Eventually you'll end up with a finished battering ram...which you can sell or haul off to the nearest fort with a few buddies. Eh?

I have a feeling player housing will come later down the road once they see if it's successful. Player housing is pretty connected to TES. Not being feasible is a bunch of BS. Even DAoC had fully customizable player housing and consignment merchants. Even guilds could have their own houses. And that was back in like 2003.

Anyway my dream idea of crafting in an MMO is this:

If a person is dedicated to do crafting, he/she can gain different styles and designs of the physical designs of an armor
like how they do for Banner Designs in Diablo 3 now. The more achievements you get, the more designs you can unlock.

An extremely dedicated and high leveled crafter can even take existing Epic Drops and add additional stats and design.

So this is what will happen:

Lets say someone got an Epic "Mannimarco Robe" drop from Mannimarco's raid.
He brings it to an extremely high level dedicated crafter, who can modify how it looks physically thru 50 different combinations and designs, and add additional attributes to it.

So, even though alot of people may have Mannimarco Robe that was dropped, everyone of them would look unique and have different stats.

Therefore, a crafted item will ALWAYS be better then an Epic Drop (or different depending on what kind of stat and how u modify it. but it will be super difficult to modify
an existing epic drop), but will never be as good as a Legendary Drop. (Which should be super super super rare, like maybe only have 1 or 2 in the whole server.).

Yes, yes point at me and laugh. But thats how i thought crafting was when i was first introduced to MMOs.

The key thing is to have a UNIQUE look designed by the crafter.

I totally agree with this too, a player always wants to feel that he or she is unique in the world. Finding awesome equipment isn't at all pleasing if everyone has the same thing.

Depends on your crafting level and how much gold you are willing to spend.
You can have the choices of doing whatever you want with the epic drop.

The most extreme would be to completely modify the design, and Adding completely different enchantment in addition to the original enchantment the item has.
It won't make sense to wipe out the original enchantment because that will make the epic loot lose its original purpose.
This will be super hard to do, and cost an INSANE amount of gold, but hey if players wanna Min-Max their character, this is an option they can do.

It also makes crafting very legitimate and feasible. It will make crafters proud of their work instead of having all their crafted items superseded by the next tier of epic loot.

To expand on it a lil more, a crafter can also choose to specialize in adding PVP like stats or PVE stats, or even being a MASTER of both.

There can even be designs unique either to only PVP or PVE crafters.
Eg: PVE Crafters can add glowy falcon, dragonhead designs, while PVP Crafters can add things like rows of bloody skulls or severed limbs to the design.

Now a crafter that can MASTER BOTH PVP AND PVE stats will TRULY BE A LEGENDARY CRAFTER!!!!! MUAHAHAHAHAHHAHAA
