A few nit-picky graphic fixes...

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:11 pm

Hi friends.

Things are http://www3.picturepush.com/photo/a/2964646/img/Oblivion/Oblivion-2010-02-21-11-42-12-77.jpg, and I'm quite content with the state of my game. BC + UL + FCOM - 25-30fps everywhere. Lovely.

Maybe this could be a useful thread? Upload a photo of some graphical oddity and see if anyone has a solution?

Two quick nit-picks from me to start off with:

1. Is there a way to extend the LOD distance of my water? http://www1.picturepush.com/photo/a/2964644/img/Oblivion/Oblivion-2010-02-21-11-37-06-69.jpg in the water between detailed water and low-detail drives me crazy. I've tried a few .ini tweaks, but no luck. Any ideas?

2. http://www2.picturepush.com/photo/a/2964645/img/Oblivion/Oblivion-2010-02-21-11-37-11-59.jpg Is there a way to extend the distance that landscape is generated so to prevent floating rocks / houses / etc. I'm guessing this is something caused by RAEVWD.

Thanks friends.

Don't think there's anything that can be done about either issue. The second one isn't caused by RAEVWD - it's the same with vanilla.

It's not caused by RAEVWD, but how Oblivion handles distant landscape. RAEVWD places all VWD objects in the proper position, but because the reduced-polygon distant landscape meshes only approximate the terrain this can sometimes lead to distant objects that are partially buried or floating.

If the detailed landscape could be rendered further out the effect would be reduced, but I'm not sure that is possible (and it may be a big framerate killer). I wonder if it may also be possible to replace the distant landscape meshes wit higher quality ones? My understanding, though, is that there are no real good tools to easily generate distant landscape meshes for the game.

Hmm. That's all very interesting.

I feel like I've seen screenshots with characters looking out to sea that did not have such a harsh break-point between high-detail and low-detail water.

As for the distant-landscape, if there was a method, I feel like i've got 4-5fps to spare on a solution worth trying.

Thanks much.

Please forgive me for trying again, but the number of brilliant modders on this forum is overwhelming.

Does anyone know a method to extend the draw distance for detail terrain? Or extend the draw distance for detailed water? Please see the OP for photos of what I'm looking for.

Thanks again. I won't double post again. (grin)

The only method for extending the draw distance on full terrain is to raise the uGridsToLoad value in the Oblivion.ini file. The problem is, doing so introduces several possible bugs. One known as the "bouncing landscape" bug, where you'll be walking along and suddenly you're bouncing up and down, and so are any NPCs/creatures nearby. Another causes water LOD to stop functioning at random. So you're better off leaving things as they are.

The harsh line in your water LOD pic is also not something that can be fixed. It's always there, even in vanilla, but tends to be more noticeable when using water mods.

Alright, one more little nit-pick - figured it wasn't worth making a new thread.

All is running fine, a good 1.5 without crashes. Loving my modlist right now.

However, every once in a while I come across a character with an invisible torso: http://www2.picturepush.com/photo/a/2994190/img/Oblivion/Oblivion-2010-02-26-12-13-11-88.jpg

When I kill them, the armor is just something stock, like "steel cuirass" and I can equip it on myself and not turn invisible, taking it off the corpse allows me to see their body, dropping it does not result in a missing mesh icon,... nothing.

Just a memory glitch? Something fixable?

Thanks much!

I'm just taking a wild guess here, but perhaps EVE_StockEquipmentReplacer4FCOM.esp has something to do with your latest issue? I'd try reinstalling it to see if that helps. I haven't used that mod, but from the title it seems like it could be the mod causing the problem. Make sure to follow it's directions carefully, too, just in case. :)

Invisible armor parts indicates a bad or missing normal map. If it's missing, reinstalling the mod that provides it will fix that. If it's bad, it may not have the proper amount of mipmaps and whoever generated the texture needs to correct that.
