Stealth and Blink

It is just me or does moving stealthy in dishonored seems to much dependent on Blink?
Can we not use Blink and still move efficiently around the missions without being spotted?

Of course you can. Just like in most other stealth games. Blink just shortens distance and you don't have to rely on it. It's just a signature skill for the game and you're not forced to do it.

you also have the ability to double jump in order to climb buildings.

In case you were worrying about not being able to scale building without blink.

And you can climb and scale buildings, even without double jump

A no powers/equipment ghost run would make for an interesting challenge. Since Blink is given to all players, there might be a few places in the game where you have to use it. It seems like you can jump pretty high even without double jump. Stacking crates or other objects might be a possibility.

Oh god dammit you've made me want to play with crates again. This happens every time I play DX:HR or similar games...making stair cases, walling off cameras etc

Does blink produce any sound? Its not very clear from the demos whether you can be heard or not. If the enemies can hear you blink then it may make things much more difficult.

Probably not. And like I said before it's your choice whether or not to use Blink. If you need it use it, if not then experiment. If you want to though, some people may want to spam Blink all the time. That's their choice.

Yeah, but imho its better when a game is challenging than having to put restrictions on yourself in order to make it harder.

Well it is better but we won't get as deep and complex as Deus Ex any time soon.

Well, Blink certainly makes things smoother, but it doesn't seem to break anything.
I mean, using it rapidly seems to incur a pretty hefty mana cost, so you'll still be using it to slip from cover to cover, or using it in conjunction with your regular sneaking.
Beyond that, the demos mostly used it for gaining access to new locations, which isn't really a problem as long as the map design takes that into account.
If there's a power I suspect will be OP, it would be Time Bend.

You could select a homing rocket launcher that aimed faster than the pistol in the first level of Deus Ex.
I love the game and everything, but it is a long way from challenging or balanced.

Sneaky Basterds said that it's still pretty hard to ghost a level. Also Deus Ex is one of the most balanced games out there and if not the most balanced RPG.

This. Deus ex(my fav game btw) is very easy and unbalanced, especially if you play stealthy, partly because of the ridiculously stupid AI.

And why is it unbalanced and easy? The only problems it had was the bad AI, the Tranquil gun and swimming and poison resistance being useless to max out. That's pretty much it. Overall like I said one of the most balanced RPGs, big depth and complexity and one of the best written games of all time. Have you maybe played on easy or talking about a different game?

Also founding the rocket launcher (which has few ammo and restocking it is really hard) doesn't mean it makes the entire game unbalanced. In fact, it's a good thing that you find an item of significant value trough exploration.

When did you last play it? I beat it about two years ago on the realistic difficulty and it was a cakewalk really. Yes the Ai was very bad, the tranq crossbow was overpowered, the money was obsolete, i never ran out of lockpicks or multitools and so on so so forth(iam talking about stealthy approach). Also some skills are not useful like you said e.g. demolition weapons, swimming, hazard protection. Also there was no point in upgrading the melee weapon skill to the max, i didnt notice any improvement between 3rd and 4th level for example.

I agree that it's one of the best written games, and i consider it to have the best game world ever created(both in terms of setting and exploration).

We're getting off topic.
I'm also curious about the combat applications Blink will have and how those work out. I think Gameinformer's preview mentioned him using Blink to slam into an enemy to stun him. If you can rapidly spam Blink, I can see that getting a bit broken too.
Although I admit it would be hilarious if you could use it to tip tall boys over.

If you blink in front of a guard you can stab him quickly and it would count as a stealth kill.
