Dunmer travels to Skyrim, but can he continue on to High Roc

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 6:45 am

Hey guys, I have been away for a little while. The last thing I remember while being on these forums was that you could not leave your race's faction's region. If I am a Dunmer, I can go to Black Marsh and Skyrim, as well as Morrowind, but can I go to High Rock, Hammerfell, Summerset Isles, Valenwood, and Elsweyr?

If not, then does this mean that if I have a friend that likes to play as a pure mage, and therefor goes for Breton or Altmer, that I, who likes to play as a barbarian Nord can not play with my friend? Since the only place we can see each other is the PvP dedicated Cyrodiil?

Thanks guys, this has been bugging me. I don't believe anymore that they would make this a feature, so I want to know if there has been any news on the subject since May.

And if you give any info, please leave a source as well. Thanks.

I think you actually can travel anywhere you want, I mean that's the whole idea of The Elder Scrolls. They haven't said that directly, but it pretty much sounded like that is possible.

I've still never seen a source for the region restrictions claim, and I would really like to see one if it exists.

DAoC did restrict some areas, however this is not DAoC so i would be very surprised if they did.

I'd like to know this too. I'm hoping that they'll allow us unrestricted travel.

Slightly related - I'd like to know to what extent we can ally with the different factions in PvE content. I hope there's no language restrictions and such.

You understand correctly. While they didn't say the exact words "you cannot travel to enemy realms" it can definitely be inferred in what they said. I don't have the interview handy as I'm posting from my phone atm, but I'm sure another forum regular can point you to it.

I think it was something along the lines of "you will level up in your own faction's area".

The whole point that TES tries to convey is that you have no restrictions, I would be sure that Zenimax would stay true to that philosophy of " Do whatever you want, how you want, when you want", ( with reasonable ' do what you want') and let players explore the many regions. Though I am sure there might be drawbacks of the sort of the npcs probably attacking you or something of the sort, I am sure they would let you freely navigate the land of tamriel so as to say that you could enjoy the experience with any of your friends, regarding you had abest friend who enjoys Khajiiti, another who likes Argonians, and yourself being in the dispostion of an orc, you could all be able to meet up and travel together, roleplay, dungeon, quest etc.

Though I would be appalled if they insisted of conveying a restrictive client that prevents you from traveling anywhere you want. Their whole advertising motto is based on free choice, as mentioned before.

I intend to be an explorer. My understanding is there will be freedom to explore pretty much anywhere.
If I cant explore I doubt if I will enjoy the game.

I also want to go to high rock, hammerfell and all other provinces, I will play as a nord x/
Dissapointing,But i guess i will create characters of every race.. But will not be the same thing as being allowed to explore these lands as your main character and didnt they talk about this in the gameinformer TES:O podcast and then in one of the E3 interviews?

Dark Age of Camelot restricted areas based on SERVER TYPE. On a PVE server you could GROUP WITH ANYONE AND GO ANYWHERE.

There certainly have been implications that we are restricted to our own faction's provinces (with the exception of Cyrodil).
But the more I think about it, the more unlikely that seems. In terms of game design and staying true to Elder Scrolls feel, faction restriction would be a terrible, terrible mistake. For a significant portion of ES fans, exploration is the number one activity (I consider myself one of these people).

If the restriction rumors are true, I will have given up all hope for this game. If they are capable of making a decision that stupid, what other awful decisions are they capable of making?

p.s. I plan to play as a khajiit or bosmer, but if I can't explore to foreign lands like Black Marsh, I swear I wlll stop playing this game, create a collaboration of scenic pictures on Google Images, and create my own Black Marsh in a word document. And I'll explore it just by looking at it, because that is better than not exploring Black Marsh at all.

I have never played an MMO, but won't allowing us to create multiple characters in multiple factions create lots of sabotage? That sounds like a disaster waiting to happen... or am I missing something?

Pete Hines? Why would he be able to answer this question? Bethesda isn't making ESO.
