Do you think THQ will recover?

Post » Sat Jun 23, 2012 7:48 am

THQ has created/published alot of great games in history. In recent years some things have been questionable. THQ has made it's vows to refocus on more successful IP's. There's lot's of rumours flying around of what they will really do. I think THQs success rests on the MMO-turned-SP Warhammer 40k game and maybe another game. Though with the newer Saints Row THQ said they have now 75 million in there pockets, triple of what they thought they would get.

That said, what are your predictions for THQ's future.

I hope THQ is able to get themselves out of the hole they are in.

The only game of THQ's I know of is Tony Hawk (that's them right?). They rode that off a cliff long ago and kept on trying and trying and trying the same old crap...So I can't say I really care about them.

EDIT: Ok wiki'ed it, guess that didn't make THPS, but I don't see a single game on the list of games they've made that I've ever liked, so still don't care.

Not a big fan, but its always disappointing to see a game developer go down. Game development is a tough business.

I wouldn't be completely shocked if they recover. They do have Darksiders II coming out next month and some other potential big titles down the road like Metro, South Park, and Company of Heroes II. Still I wouldn't be completely shocked if they fell into ruin.

They're on the edge. Right now they really need Darksiders 2 to succeed, after that hopefully Metro and South Park too. All these games are looking pretty good so I do think there's the potential for them to recover.

They also decided to make the planned SR3 expansion http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/06/20/saints-row-3s-expansion-is-evolving-into-saints-row-4/

THQ simply won't recover because http://www.steampunkmmo.com/ <-- They work for them or with.. w.e.

The creator of SteamPunk MMO was also the creator of a failure game named " Endless Ages ". It wasn't a failure because it was a bad game, just because it was never 100% finished and it was no published properly, and over the years they really gave it a bad rep. by selling the engine and the game to a company called Rapid Reality ( RR ) Who wrecked the game and turned into Phylon, which Endless Ages was later brought back by Brandon Brophy, these days you see some people bring up servers... Rare though, you can get the server files and such still. :P - Free at that -.

I imagine they'll pick back up. Their current dip may be due to their cutting WH40K: Dark Millennium Online down to a singleplayer title rather than an MMO. Once Darksiders II, Metro: Last Light, and Dark Millennium come out, they'll probably pick back up.

If they do go under, I really hope the Space Marine series continues with their current team.

Basically this. They thinned out their franchises, and they've got some solid titles still in the works. I don't see why they couldn't recover.

It'll be a shame if they go down. I really enjoyed their Dawn of War and Company of Heroes games.

Aye, if THQ goes then I would hope Relic to find a new publisher. The last 40k game we spot on and THQ seems to have things done right with 40k. Though I think they will pull through now looking at the solid list of games coming up.

An MMO is the last thing they need, they should concentrate on what they know and that single player games and the subject matter their games are based on, because thats whats kept them going so far, and once their financial then attempt an MMO, but not risk one now.

IMO nobody should considering starting up a new MMO project right now, regardless of financial status. The market is oversaturated with them, we're slowly moving away from the classic WoW MMO model into something a bit different like Guild Wars 2, Planetside 2, etc. so any attempts at creating a classic MMO that comes out 5 years from now will likely fail. It's the most expensive kind of game you can produce, and the risks that come with it are huge.
