Anyone use Craigs List?

Post » Sat Jun 23, 2012 12:03 pm

Have any of you guys sold items on Craigs list? Is it the best way to sell something like a laptop?

To be honest, I've never even been to that site before today and have never sold anything online before, but I *need* to sell a netbook. (Long story, but I ended up with two and one I absolutely HATE and New Egg doesn't refund for computers soooo...) And I kind of need to sell it sooner rather then later to recover some money.

Anywho, just wondering if anyone here had opinions/tips on the subject.

Craigslist can be a fantastic way to buy and sell stuff, but you need to be very cautious of scams. I've sold several things (including a laptop) and have bought several items as well. I always make sure to bring along a friend to any meeting to make sure I don't get ripped off. But I've never honestly had any problems with the site or any of the deals I've done.

Its fast if you put it up for the right price. People tend to really overprice things, trying to sell "hardly used" for near new prices.

Ive sold a few things via craigslist. Just make sure you include the computers specs, and set a decent price "obo" (Or best offer). And if you are one of the perenoid types, have a location in mind for the exchange once you find a buyer.

Also include a line for local sales only, as you more then likey will get scam emails about shipping the item somewhere for more then you are asking for.

Go with a buddy so you don't get killed or beaten or kidnapped.

I love craigslist, it's a great spot for deals, but also a great spot for overpriced things. Do your research if you buy anything, but as far as selling, excellent place.

Make your prices a few dollars cheaper than how others are selling other netbooks just like it, you'll be getting offers in no time!

Sold and bought several things off craigslist...best part is no fees, but as others said already be careful with scams.

Ebay and Amazon have gotten rather ridiculous with the fees, but of course they have the benefit of a much larger user base. When doing either (buy or sell), make sure to meet the person in a public place and for crying out loud...don't post your phone number or email in your ad. Just asking for trouble. Use the emailing system they have in place already

Problem is - this netbook really is just about new. I've taken it out of the box, turned it on once, but then it went back into the box and was sent back to New Egg... who then returned it after resetting it to factory default. (Like I said, it's a long story.) I paid $350, what would be considered a fair price in your opinions? (That's the part I hate the most about selling stuff.)

lol Tig: You posted an answer to my question as I was typing. I was wondering how people contacted one another being I wasn't about to plaster my email or phone number on the internet.

Depends on the model and brand of this netbook. Describe in your ad what you just described to us. Research on Ebay to see what others are selling for under "completed listings"...both used and new. Go in-between or whatever you feel happy with, but that is still fair to you and the potential buyers. Your netbook is considered at least open-box, so gotta expect you're not going to get your full refund.

Be prepared for low-ballers or trade offers as well.

Never sold anything on Craigslist, but I did just buy myself a brand new beat up 1987 GMC Jimmy (Chevy Blazer) that I found in a Craigslist add.

Craigslist is really nice for buying and selling things on your own, it's sort of like a giant online garage sale, and like garage sales there is often quite a bit of bargaining going on.

I've had mostly good experiences with it, and no bad experiences. (One time I went to buy an item and the guy blatantly lied about its condition, so I wasted a trip, but no big deal). I also recently sold my car through Craigslist, which was a little scary, but it turned out well.
