Level Ideas

Post » Tue Jun 26, 2012 7:34 pm

Do any of you have great ideas for levels in Dishonored? This is more for potential user made levels if they release a mod kit, as it would be way too late for Arkane to add more levels. They don't have to be cannon, just fun.

This is a horrible way to start a topic, but I have one that I would not like to share (right now). It would require a lot of assets that probably won't include, and if they do include them, they probably would have made the level already. However, I would somehow have to develop insane mapping skills. Both maps I have made for Unreal Tournament 3 involve some small rooms that no one goes in, and one huge cubic room where all the action takes place. I am not great at making levels. Although I did make an awesome chandelier out of pre-existing parts in UDK!

Now I feel bad keeping my level idea secret from you guys :( I might share it if I can't make it, or if you guys REALLY want to hear it.

I don't quite understand - was there some sort of announcement about a level editor tool?

Well, if they do release any sort of level editor, I wouldnt mind recreating the Thief series. Although that would be a momentous undertaking and would be better suited for a team of people.

If I could choose any setting to be in the game, I would love a mission on one of those whaling ships. Although from in-game images they seem sort of small, so mayhaps a beefed up version of one.

No, just thinking of ideas for if there is one.

For those who really want to mod you should just pick up UDK. And if you seriously think quality control should be sacrificed because of user friendliness, then you are dead wrong. Might I ask how many good PC games we had over the last years? And how many of them got modding tools?

I'd need to see more in game footage before I could make a definitive decision (I'm on media blackout), but it sounds like the nature of the AI in the game would allow for a lot of different types of level design. I'd like to see the idea of verticality explored with some mods. You could have a city constructed of separate floating islands that are linked together via gondola lifts. You could start at the top and then use blink to jump from down to different sections quickly without hurting yourself. Be great for a chase mission. I'm just thinking out loud.

Seems like the Dark Mod toolkit would be better for that, since it already has the Thief gameplay.

strifecross: The reason we want mod tools for this game is because the gameplay and assets would be ready to go. If you tried to make a Dishonored-like mod with UDK, you'd essentially just be making a new game. It would take years.

Actually, at least with Unreal Tournament 3, you can make maps with UDK. However, a mod kit would make it much easier.

Yes I know that and I am aware of how time consuming it is. Still saying that true dedication shows it's worth in the end.

Yes, I understand what you are saying. I just read your other thread (you know which one), and I will not comment on there as per your request, but I am very sorry for what you are going through (I know you weren't asking for pity), and felt that I had to say something. Say what I don't know, but I want you to know that I understand and appreciate your opinions and what you are saying.

You have to basically hack UE3 editors to make them work with unsupported 3rd party games. Some people figured out how to make mods for Mirror's Edge work with the UT3 editor, but the chances of that happening with Dishonored are pretty low.

If there are going to be mods, we need the tools. Otherwise, probably not happening.

Hey, it's not unheard of. There are outliers like The Dark Mod. But I'd prefer that, if at all possible, they release mod tools.

If not, I'll still buy the hell out of the game, of course. :)
