Costosternum Joint Sprained. Any Doctors in the House?

Post » Tue Jun 26, 2012 1:14 pm

So I went to the docs and asked about this pain I have been having in my chest. At first I thought it was something from smoking, but he said the pain isn't even near the lungs.... Shows you how much I know.

But he did say that I have a Costosternal Joint Strain. Meaning the joint that connects the bones in the sternum area is hurting. And boy let me tell you.... It hurts. No matter where I turn there is a constant jolt of pain. He told me to take Aleve for a week and throughout the week the pain should decrease over the week. But so far it has been half a week and nothing has changed.

Has anyone had this same thing happen to them? What did you do to make the pain a little.... less?

I've never had Costosternal Joint Strain.... but I have had three fractured ribs and damaged ligaments before.
And that makes every action you do (even breathing) hurt a lot.

Unfortunately, these type of injuries take a long time to heal because there is no real way to treat them, except waiting for your body to heal. (you can't put your chest in a cast like a wrist can)
Try to rest, and take it easy. It does slowly get better.

This is just my experience with similar injuries, everyone is different. I hope you're feeling better soon.

It's like having bruised ribs.. and yeah, they hurt

Also Septim.. you know better than to be asking medical advise on a board that propagates itself as being filled with clueless teen gamers.. :nono:

that said..
Initial treatment of the pain and functional disability associated with costosternal syndrome should include a combination of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or the cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors. The local application of heat and cold may also be beneficial. The use of an elastic rib belt may also help provide symptomatic relief and help protect the costosternal joints from additional trauma.
In other words, try not to breathe too much..

take care, and maybe cut back on the smokes for awhile?
