1st Person why

Why do you guys keep trying to push 1st person only when a good amount of people don't play them every time you do a beta testing when you have the option between 1st and 3rd we always here a suprised Todd Howard quote how people in large numbers choose a purposely broken 3rd person mode

All the cool kids prefer first person.

Also, it's more immersive, exciting and challenging while feeling less gimmicky, awkward and arcady. Field of view can be an issue, but it seems that the Dishonored team knows what it's doing.

I think there is a majority of people wanting a 3rd person view because they are console players. For them the 1st person view is more complex/difficult to control (especially in this kind of games, which are not scripted-linear-shooters). I'm wrong?

first person is just a preference some people have. thankfully the team behind dishonored can be counted among those people.

It affects the gameplay experience and the best games ever are first person for a reason. Good narrative conveyed by your actions. You know that being in the action is better than controlling another person's action.

I just want to point out that the best games in existence are the ones that have a piece of it's creators' souls if that makes any sense. The piece of art they create is something they cherish a lot and it is their view of what path gaming should take as a medium. The first Doom game was pretty much that. The first Thief game was pretty much that. I respect the artists' views and I think that support creativity and is the way to go.

But to answer you question seriously(not actually sure, if it's meant for the developers or us)

I would assume it's because we prefer first person over third person.

And should we "suffer" because you refuse to play first person?

I personally prefer 3rd person, because playing 1st person feels less like "seeing through the character's eyes", and more like playing a computer monitor with arms that's floating through the game world.

But Dishonored looks like a cool enough concept that I probably will make an exception, and pick it up.

It is not just a a change in view, it's a way of perceiving the entire game's world. Some games are better off with first person (Dishonored) others with third (Legend of Zelda) and some may have both depending on the game. Dishonored fits perfectly with the first and the creators love that kind of game and it shows.

Todd Howard thankfully has nothing to do with this game. And there are just as many people who don't want to play a third-person game. Stop assuming your side is the only side.

It's rather difficult to take in your surroundings in full when staring at the back of your own head. 1st person is about immersion, and with a game like this that is crucial.
Aslo, bashing Todd is kind of low. Can't keep judging the man by his mistakes, no matter how many terrible console -> pc ports he makes.

Well... maybe just a little.
