This just happened.

All of a sudden there are two rows of those at the Bx.... Are they literally still making these things, or are they left over from the 90's? Like seriously. There are VHS tapes nearby too.... I'm starting to think I warped back in time. If CD player Walkman start showing up next I'm going to back away slowly before I fall into whatever portal this stuff is coming out of.

Maybe they found some left over ones from years ago, and are trying to get rid of them.

Maybe there is a demand for cassettes from hipsters or something.

You'd think.... $30 though? Maybe for $2.... I don't know who thought it was a good idea to put those out. I'm pretty certain they will stay there for the next 20 years without one being sold. Except for the drunk guy who thinks it'd be funny to buy it and wear it around on his belt....

I can imagine seeing some of those in an electronics store like RadioShack, but I have no idea what they're doing there.

I remember throwing my Walkman against a wall after it chewed up one of my tapes. Ahhh, the memories.

My family once had a VCR that chewed on our tapes. It was pretty horrifying to press the "play" button on your remote, sit down on the couch, and suddenly realize through all the awful grinding noises that the VCR was devouring your favorite movie alive. D:

Nope. I'm not even sure where you'd get a cassette other than eBay. I don't know what the point is. I collect vinyl records because they sound nice (like the sound of a record on my old record player better than any .FLAC on a Bose system), look nice and are cool to collect... But do people collect cassettes? They certainly don't have a good sound to them. They're not really durable either....

I'd hazard a guess people may have old personal cassette tapes they might use those for, or they may have conversion capabilities listed on the back or something.

Also it's a portable radio with cassette playing capabilties, it says digital tuning with 33 station presets. Neat idea, it's around the same price as most portable radios.

Yeah, but there are like 100 apps that let you listen to any radio station in the country...And Pandora...and Spotify...and Podcasts. I thought even portable radios were dead....

I think you'd be surprised by how many people use such archaic tools, let alone those without smartphones with access to such apps. :P

I still have a VCR in the living room and a closet full of movies on VHS, though they haven't been used in a while.

Hit the nail on the head. It's retro and cool.
I in fact have a tape player in my car - but it's because I'm poor, not a hipster. I wish I had tapes to play in it but I don't.

At least a well pressed LP will sound passable. I don't think there's ever been a cassette that sounds good.
