Seriously why did the Falmer accept the Dwemers ''protection

Post » Sun Jul 08, 2012 6:11 am

This puzzles me, i understand that they were few in number and were dying out. But basically the Dwemer told the Falmer that you would have to spend the rest of your life totally blind and a slave underground if you wan't our protection and your race to survive. Would they not rather A go somewhere else say further south like Cyrodil? the Alyeids might have taken them in even though the Ayleids themselves were perhaps worse in terms of cruelty than the Dwemer.
But still i would rather die than live a life like that!. The Falmer should be embarrassed.

Don't judge. They didn't want to die and couldn't cross the rest of Skyrim. They took the one option they had beyond extinction.

"Well it seemed like a good idea at the time!" We don't know how many Falmer were left at that point, there seemed to be certainly a lot less then what we see lurking down there these days. Coupled with what I assume would be extreme desperation, especially after the death of their prince, they probably could of been bought to do anything for protection. Well, the ones that took the offer anyway. We don't know what happened between that though.

Oh, and they wouldn't be Snow Elves if they didn't live in snowy locales.

I think the Falmer were the ones asking for protection, the Dwemer didn't offer so they are in a position of desperation, so they could have possibly agreed to anything. Although I doubt they were as upfront about it as it seems, since there were some snow elves who were skeptical of the Dwemer and opted to hang out in reclusive enclaves instead.

Still though , they still lost what made them Falmer by accepting the offer. They lost their Culture, their eyes lol, and became a shell of their former self.
Say if Humans in this world where faced with some weird castrophe and we had to live underground and eventually mutated and turned albino and blind the fact is the Humanity that wanted to survive is no longer Humanity. So death is perferable in my opinion.

Is your opinion worth enough to kill and entire race? I don't think so. Some falmer did not agree, and they did die. So everyone wins in this model.

In truth, the most they lost is their sight. The current degradation (And general crankiness) is currently caused by unknown factors. Experimentation by the Dwemer? Too much time being Cellar Dwellers? Hard to say. The world has not been kind to them either way.

Gelebor says the vast majority of the Falmer who initially rejected the Dwemer offer eventually ended up taking it or dying out. The Elves in the Forgotten Vale were a tiny minority and an exception to the rule.

Well not exactly. I would look for most options that would be tolerable in my opinion. But being blinded and being another races slave race isn't my idea of saving a race.

And good for the likes of Gebebor and his type , for not accepting the Dwemers cruel terms.

And yet they're still alive, and according to Gelebor are becoming more intelligent and reasonable. They might even be cured someday.

Gelebor's people lived in an ancient, secluded, hidden realm the Nords didn't even know about. It's not like their lives were in any immediate danger anyway.

Death is so final though. At least this way someone may survive and perpetuate their race. And again, while they will never be "cured" of what they have become, according to Gelebor, he also says they seem to be regaining their sentience. So resemtion may well be a possibility where, had they all died, it would not have been.

I also think that perhaps the Falmer believed they could trust their Mer brethren more than they hoped to make peace with the Nords.
