New computer!?

Post » Tue Jul 10, 2012 1:51 am

My computer just got a virus so i was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of a pc that is pre-built and could run ArmA: 3 at minimum settings. And it would be nice if it cost, a normal cost... I don't even know what a normal pc costs. So could anyone tell me what i might be looking for?

Do you just want a new PC? A virus isn't the end of the world.

Buying a new computer because the old one got a virus? That's like shooting a mosquito with an ICBM... Can't you just do something less drastic and expensive, like reinstalling your OS?

You don't need to buy/build a whole new PC just to get rid of a virus. Here's what you need to do:

1. Physically disconnect your computer from your network(s), if you have any.
2. Boot under a live Linux distro and move the files that you want to rescue to another medium.
3. Format your HDD, reinstall your OS, and move your rescued files back to your fresh new PC.

...Or you can try running Malwarebytes in safe-mode first and see if that takes care of it.

...Or you could answer the darn question. I want a new computer that can at least run Arma 2 OA at medium settings pre-built, what kind of computer should i be looking for?

The way you wrote the OP sounded like you were getting a new PC just because your old one had a virus, which as Medivh said is like shooting a mosquito with an ICBM (ie it's an overreaction). Sorry for trying to be helpful.

Anyway, Arma II is three years old now, so any relatively high-grade hardware released within the last four years should run it very well. Shop around on sites like Newegg, it's not that hard.

Good luck getting any help with an attitude like that.

You shouldn't have said the reason why you want to get it then. You need to learn people, dude. If you give superfluous information, chances are people will comment on it.

First of all, what are your current computer specs? (If you don't know, post a dxdiag here). Also, a virus is no reason to get a new computer.

How much are you willing to spend, and are you willing to build it yourself? Do you need anything else besides the tower itself?

It's entirely possible your current PC is good enough with just a GPU and PSU upgrade, as Starforce said, post your current specs so we can see if just a minor upgrade is all you need.
