Heavily artistic games.

Post » Wed Jul 11, 2012 7:42 pm

Does anyone know of any heavily artistic games? By this I mean a game that is put together with a definitive artistic vision in mind. It can be perfectly linear and whatnot. I just want something short or long with a great story and art style/direction that flows well together. I want to be wow'ed in some sense. Something that evokes strong emotion, not because of the gameplay but because of themes, characters or plot. Can be for PC or Xbox. PS3 as a last resort because I think mine is broken...

Thanks in advanced. Feel free to discuss games similar to the requirements if you wish.

Open world games are out and so are multiplayer games. I am stocked on those types to the brim. Besides I do not think there is a single ipen world game that has that heavily artistic feel to it that I am looking for. For context i just spent the last 1 1/2 browsing Deviant Art and that may have something to do with this thread lol.

Salutations, Albinodunmer! I will aid you in the best of my abilities. Have you played Flower, Journey or El Shaddai:Ascension of the Metatron? Those three are what come to kind.

I thought I could help more, but I realized I don't have much in terms of artistic games.

Too bad I only ever played the demo.

Halo Combat Evolved if you are a futuristic architecture kind of guy. And for the best quality get the anniversary edition.

Okami.

VEHK! Out of all the ones I could have said, how could Okami be forgotten? Well, it technically has been forgotten since it came out which is disappointing.

The Witcher 2.
I have it. I dunno if it really fits or not though because I have not beaten it. Its on my to do list. It had been since it was released last year lol. That is part of my problem. I want something kind of short. I havent been able to beat a game since Skyward Sword in January. I just kind of wanna beat a cool short game real quick that leaves one of those lasting impressions.

Okami? No PS at the moment. Always meant to play it. Mirrors Edge never really grabbed me in the demo even though it was pretty fun. Keep em coming I will get to all the response eventually. I am on mobile and out an about right now. Thanks guys and gals.

Hey, it's what we're here for! Anything for a fellow forumite.

What exactly is "heavily artistic" to you? Is it more in terms of visuals and how it's presented?

I'd say Halo Anniversary, but we've all played Halo. Even if it's reskinned in a beautifully artistic package, that's all it is now. Very artistic, no emotion. Too old.

Sides' that, weeelll...I don't know many artistic games. :(

Okami is also on Wii (since you mentioned Skyward Sword). The motion controls aren't perfect but it's definitely worth playing if you don't have a PlayStation 2. Okami HD is also headed to PSN later this year, if you end up getting your PS3 fixed. Once fixed there's also the ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection.

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron, though its gameplay and story leave a bit to be desired.

I agree with Wingus Shadow of the Colossus is a must play for the Playstation. As have been mentioned Limbo and Trine 1 and 2 also have very unique artstyles.

Also Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess/Skyward Sword, I think Twilight Princess still looks better than Skyward Sword

Okami. I don't even enjoy Japanese stuff but I LOVE this game so much for the music alone.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution combines cyberpunk with Renascence art. Very neat.

Journey for the PS3. It's very artistic and inventive. Full of emotion and up to interpretation.

There's one indie game called http://tale-of-tales.com/ThePath/, but I never got it yet, since I have no way of buying online right now.

I'll second this one despite how nightmare inducing it has the potential to be.

Visuals are important. I am kind of looking for that short and sweet experience I think. I am a but burnt out on really long games for now. I just wanna beat something fun and short lol. However the most important features would be thought and emotion provocation I guess bundled with decent(using this loosely) gameplay. I can suffer through crappy gameplay for 8-10 hours or so if the story and and artstyle hold me. So to answer your question, pretty much yes, in terms of visuals and how the whole package is presented.
LIMBO.
Heard about this. Think I downloaded it for PS3. PS3 broke like 2 days after and I never fixed it. Been like 1 1/2 years now lol. I think it is just a power chord thing but since I got a 360 for very cheap I never bothered to fix it again. Could I get a breakdown of what this game is about? Not story just a basic game description.
Maybe something like Trine, or Amnesia: Dark Descent.
Heard of both. Never played them. Sorry to ask but what are both like?

Yup, I have a Wii available. Forgot to mention that. Technically it is my GF but she is away on vacation for like 2 months in China. When or if I get my PS3 fixed I will check it out.
I agree with Wingus Shadow of the Colossus is a must play for the Playstation. As have been mentioned Limbo and Trine 1 and 2 also have very unique artstyles.
Played it. Never finished it. Loved the big battles and the climbing but everything in between bored my (then) teenage mind to death and I kind of stopped playing it. I do still own it though somehow lol.
Also Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess/Skyward Sword, I think Twilight Princess still looks better than Skyward Sword
Beat almost every major console Zelda game(not 1 and 2), most more than 3 times. Beat several of the mobile versions too.
Okami. I don't even enjoy Japanese stuff but I LOVE this game so much for the music alone.

Okami again. Noted.

I own Deus Ex for Xbox 360 and I kind of just didn't like it. I will give it a second chance. Some of the gameplay seems TOO gamey like the set amount of takedowns you can use. Seems pretty stupid that a Cybernetically enhanced guy can only take an enemy down a few times and then needs to recharge... Pretty fun stealth game though.
Journey for the PS3. It's very artistic and inventive. Full of emotion and up to interpretation.
That description sounds wonderful. However I have seen it and it seems like a lot of sand and walking. I felt the atmosphere in an hour long video I watched of it though. It looked interesting yet very slow. Not necessarily a bad thing. What is there to do? Puzzles and wandering?

Will give those a looksie.

Clicked on the link. Hmmm...looks kind of cool. PC right. I need to go buy a Mouse! Lost my plug for my wireless mouse somewhere. Or rather someone moved it without telling me and it kind of got lost in the mix.

Thanks everyone.

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron.

That game is very weird, but very awesome.

Solatorobo: Red the Hunter is a fantastic RPG for the Nintendo DS as well.
