So I've only ever seen a space documentary in IMAX at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum...It looked cool, but was pretty boring.

There's an IMAX theater in Boise, and I'm thinking I'm going to see Spider-Man there tonight. It's $15.50 for the ticket, which is only $3 more than the 3D price anyway, and I'm assuming they probably give a military discount, so we'll see.

How is the experience? Has anyone seen a feature film in IMAX? My cousin saw The Dark Knight in IMAX back when it came out and swore it was the best experience ever, but I noticed he never went to see other movies in IMAX. I'm not sure if it's just because they weren't playing any or what (think it was at a science museum in PA that usually played documentaries and such).

My one friend said he's heard bad things about IMAX, I guess with the screen being too big if you're not far back enough.

Thoughts? Worth the money? Suggestions on where to sit?

I don't really think its worth as much as they charge for it, but its a very cool experience. I've seen a couple movies in IMAX(TDK, Avengers) and its really awesome. But I always regret spending that much money on a movie ticket. Its cool, but not worth 16 a pop.

Does the 3D look different / better in IMAX?

Every time I've been offered to go, it's always some lame documentary on something. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure those docs are probably okay, but it's like using a high end PC to play a game to eat some delicious HD crackers. Just sounds like a waste. I'd rather go to IMAX and see a movie of interest and have a blast.

As a rule, I never sit in the front. I prefer being as far back as possible. I don't know how the IMAX theater is structured but I'm sure it's the same so the back or near back should be your best bet.

I really wouldn't know. My eyes are so screwy that I can't see a lot of the 3D effects.

IMAX gives me motion sickness.

Yeah the documentary I saw at the Smithsonian was like "hey here's the planets, and these are some nebula" ooooh. Lol. It was only 40 minutes or so, and there wasn't anything too incredible about it. It was Hubble 3D.

I saw spider-man in IMAX earlier this week and it was probably the movie "experience" I've had in a while. One is in my town so I tend to go to 3-4 movies a year. If you sit around the middle to back of the theater it's perfect. The 3D glasses fit over most regular glasses, even my cousins who has the blind as all hell glasses. And the 3D is above par in my opinion, at least in spiderman

Sweet. Was the movie good? I've heard good and bad, mostly from people who won't let go of Toby, and whining about how it doesn't follow the original movie....That's kind of the point of a reboot...

I prefer IMAX 3d if I'm going to see a 3d movie. Mainly because I hate 3d movies so, if I'm going to go see one then IMAX makes it somewhat worth it.

In my opinion, it was the best out of all the movies. A very good reboot, and a less cheesy comedy. There were some laughs, and there were some moments that were actually pretty tense. Also Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben was perfect.

Yeah I was watching the originals last weekend, why is it that all the Marvel movies throw a lot of cheesy comedy at you? Spider-Man, Thor, Avengers, Captain America. All filled with those moments that make the theater laugh (and you can tell they're trying a little hard to make it happen. I mean the 'go web go' scene in the original Spider-Man...Kind of silly watching it now), and then you watch it at home and it's not really all that funny. Just sort of their style I guess.

Ya, this one wasn't the usual campy Marvel movie. Spiderman still has his quick-witty humor, but the movie as a whole is much...eh, I don't want to say darker...but it is more serious.

I've only done the IMAX thing when going on class trips or something when I was younger.

I like how sometimes they have the camera soaring over the landscapes in a nature documentary or something, feels like were floating in a giant space ship or something, or how I would imagine.

To watch a regular action flick ...nah, but to see a scientific or natural documentary that features mountains, oceans, etc. Definately.

See I'm thinking the web slinging scenes will be like that, feel like you're flying along. Should be neat.

Better in 4D . Like they should make the whole movie into the Spider-Man ride at Universal Orlando. That was fun, but it was pretty dated when I was there last year. It'd be sweet to experience the movie as a "ride".

They had the first person view for when he did that every once and a while. Pretty cool.

I saw Avengers in IMAX. I always prefer it to anything else. We're lucky we have 3 IMAX theaters nearby.
