Wonder how they will do the boss fights and which actors they will cast, unless it is CG.

I expect it to be crap, like all movie adaptations from a game. This time it's from a great game, which makes it worse.

I'm really hoping it'll be good, but it'll probably be crap as video game movies are wont to do. Let's hope it sticks closely to the plot of the game.

Square's Visual Works studio should just do a CG film, akin to Advent Children. They already did the stunning CG for the game itself.

Definitely agree that it will be crap since most movie games don't pan out well. Only thing that i've like is the first Resident Evil movie. Sadly, it went all down hill into crap ville after that movie.

The worst game turned into a movie that i've seen so far is Doom. It didn't follow the plot one dang bit with the only thing they got right being the marines + mars.

Yeah, those were "i want the time i spent watching them back!" cases. In case of Doom i want the time back double :hehe:

However, Silent Hill worked pretty well.

I'm keeping my hopes up though I know that's foolish of me. But they are working with Edios-Montreal on it and those guys really do seem to care about their fans, if all goes well it could at least be decent.

Not too sure how they could turn Adam Jensen into a good character to base a movie around though. Adam is so brooding that it's actually pretty adorable ("I never asked for this" "No of course you didn't buddy"), but I don't know if movie-goers will like him much.

yah that movie did not svck .... interesting

anyways i hope they keep the story.... man Doom was such a wasted potential, i was so excited for that movie cause i LOVED the game story and thought it was epic... ruins on Mars, demons, terran fleet on the way, HELLLLLL.... BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOO they had to destroy it and make it .... wierd and.... wired.. I can't even describe it.

If done well, it would be a good sci-fi action thriller. The plot's not bad (at least up to the point I've reached in Hengsha), there's room for some interesting background visuals, augmentations could be pretty cool if integrated into fight scenes properly, etcetera. I would hope they mix action with stealth, to better match the playstyles the game allows.

Unfortunately, history does not encourage optimism (I doubt that needs elaboration). Still, EM seems to try to do the right thing where they can, and there has to be a decent adaptation eventually.... hopefully this will be it.

EDIT: I just hope they pick a lead actor without a raspy voice. That's a fashion I'm not entirely keen on.

They mentioned that they're working very closely with Edios-Montreal, which is a huge problem when it comes to video game to movie adaptations. Actually, it's the same for most movies made from something from a different medium. Too often the original creator(s) have no say when it comes to what the movie actually ends up being, which is why we end up with horrible adaptations.

It's a problem that they're working closely with them? Why do you think that?

Should've worded it a bit differently, but I'm somewhat tired. It's a good thing that they're working closely with the developer on this, because all too often they don't and we end up with "gems" like Mortal Kombat and the Far Cry movie.

This, there were very few game-to-movie adaptations which were good, and if this will be one of them, I'll be happy. I love the story of Deus Ex.

The rights for Wheel of Time and Halo were sold years ago, doesn't mean anything is going to come of it.

The Halo movie was actually ready to begin filming, but they never gave the green light because Microsoft and whatever studio they were trying to partner with couldn't reach an agreement. Namely this is because Microsoft isn't used to working with Hollywood.

i really need to physically carry the names of the few video game movie adaptations that are actually really good.

what i can offer is the first 2 resident evil movies, which are ok. although not every one agrees on that.

Except that it sounds like they're pretty much committed to actually making something, given that they're talking about how they are/are going to be working closely with Eidos.
