Good "Browser" MMORPG's

Post » Tue Jul 17, 2012 11:50 am

I need something to get seriously addicted to, bored of Pokemon and bored of Skyrim!
I need a MMORPG! I was thinking something like.. WoW, not stratergy kingdom [censored] though. Something like WoW, dungeon finder and a heavily based instanced game.
With lot's of epicness and epic bosses!

I have to stick with browser games for a while 'cos I'm stuck with crappy internet for the next month. 3GB a week! I know, Torture!

With 3GB a week limit, why not play singleplayer offline games?

I hear Kingdoms of Amalur is bascially an MMORPG without the MMO.

I played that and finished all the MQ and two DLC's. Got bored after 30-40 hours ingame.

Not quite a MMORPG but it does have a pvp element and it has enough wtf to make for a good time is Kingdom of Loathing.

You should try Sherwood Dungeon. It has very surprising depth and graphics for a browser MMO.

There are browser MMOs?

Just play something that doesn't use your internet, you'll get a lot more enjoyment from that than some free flash-based game...

RuneScape. Barely 2GB, last I check. Has plenty of bosses, quests, dungeons, PvP, etc.. And trust me, the boss battles are hard and epic.. Actually, the hardest boss I have ever fought is on RuneScape. Graphics are bad though and it is going to heck faster than Rainbow Dash, in my eyes..

Prolly different in your own eyes.. If you wanted to play WoW then you'll love the combat update they are planning for RuneScape.. It is basicly a copy of WoW's combat system... Which I hate.

~Edit~

You know, I might just get back on it now.. I kinda do miss some parts of that game.. Argh.. Dial-Up though is such a pain.

non browser MMO's don't use a lot of bandwidth you know (beside patch downloads). I used to play WoW on dial up with no lag except I couldn't go to Dalaaran (however it's spelled, been awhile) of course because there was always a million people there and it'd crash.

Just a thought. Try LOTR Online or DC Universe online, both free to play and I think you'd find they won't use all your bandwidth. (Download them at the library or something)

This made me happy to know that there is a chance of TES-O working with my Dial-Up...

And yes, Jonahirt is correct on this.. Actually, one of the reasons why I quit RuneScape is cause of lag.. They had a major update to how Java runs it, and such, which created much lag for Dial-Up users, like myself.

Yeah, you'll just have to download the patches elsewhere, like at a library or friend's house, but I'd be willing to bet it would work.

At first I downloaded the patch files and installed them but that was a painful process, getting the right file and doing all the work. So I bought an external hard drive and put the WoW directory on it that way I'd just plug it in somewhere with broadband, open the WoW client and let the patcher do the work. In the end it was still an enjoyable experience on dial up.

I can prolly use a Flash Drive for the patches, and such. Normally Patches aren't big.. I've never seen a patch bigger than 2GB, personally.

Hmm... I think WoW had some pretty hefty patches, at least the major patches. Also before an expansion WoW actually starts adding all of the expansion content to your game as patches before the release. So over a few patches you'll end up downloading a good 5-10gb of content which if it's not there on expansion day you can't play anymore, regardless of whether or not you buy the expansion.

WoW is a pretty old game, I have my doubts that TESO will work with dial-up, seeing as more people have high-speed now.

Hm.. True.. Then again, I'm planning to buy a big Flash Drive here soon to store MLP Episodes on... Most likely gonna have plenty of room on that one.. So.. Could use that when needed..

Anyways, my real issue is with my computer.. My computer can run Morrowind but I think it cannot run Oblivion.. So.. Would it be good enough for TES-O, even at lowest graphics?

Yeah but how much do MMO's actually load from the server? All the graphics and stuff are on your computer, it just has to communicate with the server to see what other players are doing and such, right? And if they instance it like WoW and SWTOR do (where only so many people will actually appear in the same spot to any given person) it should be even easier bandwidth wise.

I'm not certain though, I've had broadband for the last year since I've been in the AF, but before then WoW always worked on dial-up, even with Cataclysm and such.

True..But from 2006 to 2011, RuneScape worked fine on my Dial-Up.. Maybe a lag here and there but never anything major.. Specially after the graphics were downloaded onto my internet memory... I guess I'll have to wait and see.. Maybe I can get better internet, maybe not. We'll see in 2013.

Yeah. Try playing LOTR Online and DC Universe Online (both free to play) and see how they perform. Should give you a better idea of how more recent MMO's work on dial up.

Runescape. And the graphics looks better than WoW IMO, the artsyle is also much better. It's got better quests than every other MMO (They aren't your normal "GET ME 10 PLANTS AND I GIVE YOU NEW SHINY ARMOR"), and the bosses are awesome. The combat svcks atm, but there's a new combat update that makes it more interesting with special effects and dual wielding (Looks a lot like WoW now, which I hate but oh well)
