PC Blu Ray Drive Problems.

Post » Fri Jul 20, 2012 6:42 am

In windows media player I get this message "Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD. The disc was created in a manner that the Player does not support." when I attempt to play a blu ray movie. It's working fine with regular dvd's. Drive is an Asus BW-12B1ST. Packaged software ha sno drivers for the drive itself, and neither does their website. On the software disc I have power2go 7, e-hammer, e-green power drivers, firmware update (which takes me to a page to search for model), and quick instillaiton quige to download the PDF... which doesn't work. The inserted manual itself tells me to plug it in and then... that's it. I'm assuming this is like a DVD drive and should just work. So why isn't it? Auto updated PC and it isn't detecting any needed updates or anything.

Edit
On the asus website I searched my model and it came up with a download page, the download said to select os and then it wouldn't let me select any. So I presume there is othing to download. I've tried playing the disc in other media players and it also doesn't work.

Your drive should have come with a software CD to play blu-ray movies. Windows doesn't play them natively.

Microsoft added native DVD movie support to Vista and 7, but no blu-ray support. You need a third party software and/or codec. For example: PowerDVD and WinDVD have packages that support blu-ray playback.

Perhaps it's a messup? Link to where you purchased it?

Or perhaps they offer it on their website (whoever made the player), but you must use something like a product or registration code to activate the software.

Cleaned out the box, not a thing in here. No codes separate outside of said box. It was only a little package. Cheap, so cheap it isn't funny. I bought it from NCIX.

What's unfortunate is that there really isn't any good free blu-ray software, because of the copy protection on the discs. So if yours didn't come with one you'd have to buy one...

Cyberlink Power2Go 7
Cyberlink PowerDVD 10 (optional)
Cyberlink PowerBackup 2.5 (optional)]
Cyberlink InstantBurn 5 (optional)
E-Hammer
E-Green

Off their website as software it should have came with.

Unless you bought OEM, you should return it. If you bought OEM, then no software will be included.

Often, even if your Blu-Ray drive does come with software to play Blu-Rays, it'll either be an old version or just crappy software. Many people just opt for buying a good, current program instead.
