Using Xbox 360 controller for Skyrim on Steam

Post » Sun Jul 22, 2012 11:03 am

I know there has been threads about this and I read through a couple, there was a very simple answer "plug and play and it will work" seemed simple to me... still can't figure it out.

my steps:

First looked at settings in game, the xbox 360 controller option was checked already

took my favorite Xbox controller, plugged it into the cord (plug n play charge cord with usb end) then plugged other end (usb) into my laptop

notification at bottom of my computer pops up says that xbox 360 controller plug and play read to use and there was a green check mark, even noticed the red light come on to show that the controller was charging

held down the xbox button to turn the controller on and well it turned my xbox console on lol

I then loaded my Skyrim game up on my PC and ignored the fact that my xbox console was on, proceeded to play the game however the controller never picked up the PC game and did work with my PC only worked with the Xbox

I am probably missing a simple step, and I apologize for my lack of knowledge, please help thanks guys!

Plug and play kits DO NOT work, anyone who says otherwise is lying. It must be either a wireless reciever connector or a hardwired controller. I have both the plug and play kit and a wired controller. I had to buy the wired one precisely because of this fact.

The USB plug and play kit only charges a controller on the PC. It will never send signals to it.
