What FOV do you use?

Post » Mon Jul 23, 2012 11:34 pm

Ive just started experimenting and have settled upon 80 on a 22" 1920x1080 screen. Now the default value of 65 looks plain awfull. What are you using on what sized screen?

85 on a 23" 1080p screen. No science here, just feels right to my eyes. And yes, 65 for a monitor is a joke.

80, on a 23" monitor, resolution 1920x1080.

I would set it to 90 but at 90 I'd sometimes get the camera clipping into walls in third person.

fDefaultWorldFOV=85fDefault1stPersonFOV=65fDefaultFOV=65

Paste this in your Skyrim.ini under the [Display] section. Change fDefaultWorldFOV to whatever you like. No FOV reset in any circumstances for me with these settings defined like that.

Yes, it's best to set FOV using .ini files. Using the console command 'fov' will set ALL three fov values to the same one, which creates weird effects like detached hands in first person view.

Myself, I use fov 85 for a 19'' 1440x900 display.

I think 75. Too low feels cramped. Too high feels fishy.

I'm using 72 on a 24" at 1920x1200. I'm not completely happy with it, but the reason I don't want to go higher is because everything starts getting noticeably stretched on the sides of the screen from 73 and up. Around 80 feels great though in the center of the screen.
