GeForce GTX 680 vs. Radeon HD 7970 vs evga 670 4gb edition

Post » Tue Jul 24, 2012 10:21 pm

So there's a review http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphics/37253-three-screen-geforce-gtx-680-vs-radeon-hd-7970/ that compares a 2gb 680 to the 3gb 7970. I know there's more to graphics cards than just RAM, but I'm wondering how the 4gb 670 (linked below) would compare when thrown in since the two cards are remarkable similar. So hopefully someone with more tech knowledge than me can shed some light on the situation. Eventually I do plan on getting three monitors, so that's why I'm wondering about these "big" cards.

I'm considering the HD7970 despite the GTX680 performance, it's the frame buffer I'm more interested in, should be able to run ultra with HD textures no problem.

from someone who has personal experience with ati and their crap drivers, I highly recommend going nvidia, whatever you do.

I've not had a problem with ATI/AMD in years, my HD5870 runs like a charm, and that's even using it with a GTX470 in the secondary slot for PhysX, Radeon was a pain in the butt several years ago and almost put me off, but the fact that Nvidia delayed their directx 11 card had me staying with ATI cards initially.

I haven't had any major problems with ATI, either, but that review clearly shows that a 680 for three monitors is better than the 7970. But I think I'm gonna stay away from the 4gb 670 because it's got the bad air design and the crappy heatsink, and can't really utilize the extra ram.

You probably wouldn't know the catastrophic problems drivers have unless you're running crossfire. Totally different story with my 5970, been nothing but trouble for 2 years.
