Cloud Gaming - Yay or Nay?

Post » Wed Jul 25, 2012 2:32 pm

So, a recent http://games.yahoo.com/blogs/plugged-in/leaked-xbox-720-roadmap-document-alleges-2013-launch-174556733.html about the "Xbox 720" says that it could possibly include always-online and cloud gaming.

Let us imagine, for a moment, that this eventually spreads to all platforms. MS/Sony/Nintendo require authentication to their servers, while PC developers do the same (or, for all we know, Microsoft could implement something similar in Windows 8).

Do you support/have an issue with it?

Definitely support. I was really hoping the 720 would be discless... I'm so sick of DVDs / blu rays, I want everything downloaded or streaming.

Same, none of my computers even have physical disc drives these days. Just leaves an extra SATA port open for a hard drive.

Cloud gaming, something like http://www.nvidia.com/object/cloud-gaming.html that they presented a few weeks ago would be cool. Though I do agree that ISPs need to eliminate data caps and offer higher bandwidths for a cheaper cost before it does pick up. In my house hold I have a 20mbps down/2 up Comcast connection which is decent enough for most things, but when I require some serious download speeds, I tether my Galaxy Nexus for 60mbps down/ 20mbps upload. (Grandfathered in)

Whatever happened to choice?

Choices empower customers to decide for themselves so obviously that is a bad thing for corporations since they want the only choice to be available is to enslave the wallets to their will.

It seems to me, if it functions correctly, then it will bring a godly level of convenience.
Buuuut, you know Micro$oft is going to try and screw us X-Box users over by adding random fees or some other [censored].

Those kinds of servers costs a good bit of money. If you don't like their services....don't buy their products?

I didn't mean to come across as one of those "everything should be free" people, sorry.

.... You actually have issues with a data cap of 105 Gigs? Geez. My Data cap is 5 gigs, and while it's a struggle, I manage to scraqe by every month. can't imagine what I would do with an extra 100 gigs(well, beyond downloading every single mod for Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim that I possibly could that is).

Nay.
With my understanding of Cloud its a online service that keep your data/saves in a in-line storage or Internet or server.
Is Diablo 3 like that?
If so I type Nay.
I keep my saves off line with me. Least I know where they are and they are safe.

I don't know why no one trusts the cloud. I'd be willing to bet your data is safer in the cloud than physically in your possession. I've never heard of any major cloud service losing a customer's data.

Well crap happens if it dose.
Jet fall from sky.
Earthquake happened in Melbourne (Aus) couple nights ago
Loco crashes into a car

If I loose my off line data its my fault.
If I loose my in-line data its the provider fault. Will they care? I doubt that.

Don't forget http://www.rearden.com/DIDO/DIDO_White_Paper_110727.pdf from http://www.rearden.com/ (Company of Onlive(Could Gaming Service)). If that works 100%, Cloud Gaming could be really successful.
