Swords, Axes or Maces?

Post » Thu Jul 26, 2012 1:25 pm

What do you use?
On my first character I used a mace, then either a spell, a shield or a second mace.

I remember one battle I ran out of magica, but my enemy had low health, so I went to equip my second mace, but I had accidentally left it somewhere, so I got to see a kill move with a mace wielded in combination with a pickaxe :D

Maces are strong but I rely on the speed of my sword to take down an enemy before it strikes.

^^This
Strike, before your enemies attack you.
Kill, your enemies when have chance. Faster, means bigger chance.
So, I prefer Sword.

They're all practically the same. Whichever looks best.

Swords have the most uniques though.

I prefer War Axes overall, good enough speed and they stagger more than swords do. I like maces alot, too, because when you stagger someone they can't attack you back, and that's better than just killing them a bit faster.

"I'm a sword man myself."

Though axes have grown on me. Maces are alright, I guess, never used them much.

Maces or swords, except where axes are acceptable for Rule of Cool.

Maces deal more damage and have the only vaguely useful special perks (bleeding and critical hit damage is negligible), swords are faster with good reach and I believe typically get higher DPS.

Twohanded I can only tolerate the greatsword, nothing else has good enough reach to balance how slow it is.

Tend to prefer Swords, mainly for the way they look really. If I'm dual-handing though, War-Axes. Don't know that I've ever used a Mace, but my Followers often do.

Maces feel too slow and clunky so I don't usually bother with them. Swords FTW.

Swords. I like the look and feel better than the other weapons. Next would be axes, and I don't think I would actually use maces, they just aren't my thing.

Swords, much faster, can do just as much damage if you're smithing, and I like stabbing.

I like them all but cant stand the mace decapitation kill cam you dont cut someones head off with a mace smash it yes but cut it off sorry no. For that reason alone my sword and board characters almost never use a mace.

Really? I know it's just a bad kill animation for the Mace, but come on, it feels like you literally beat that guys head off his body!

Swords. Big enough to do lasting damage, fast enough to power attack and stagger your foe. Crit damage chance is a better weapon bonus than bleed damage of axes (which can be mimiced by enchanting the sword with fire damage anyway) or the largely useless armor piercing power of maces.

Every time I see it I just think no no no that's not right now if it smashed his head into a bloody pulp then it would be mace time  .

The few times I used One Handed, I used a sword (deadric) but I usually prefer the Two Handed Battleaxe, nice middle ground between the fast Greatswords and Slow powerful Warhammers.

Axes. They seem to be a good median between the speed of a sword and the power of a mace. Plus I like the way they look.

The unique perk effects are all worthless, so that shouldn't factor in your decision.

In terms of practicality of damage over time, swords are the best out of the three, daggers even better when smithed.

If I remember right the relative swing speeds are:
Daggers - 1.3
Swords - 1.1
Axes - 0.9
Maces - 0.8

So just work out if the extra damage provided by the mace/axe is actually better for combat, it usually isn't.

Swords, or daggers dual wielded. They just look so much better.
