No sound after connecting new hard drive tower to TV

Hello all. I would love some advice on what to do about this issue: I recently purchased a new hard drive tower solely for gaming purposes with the intent to connect it to my LED TV and surround sound system. I did this with Skyrim through my laptop through the HDMI port with no issue at all. First I tried connecting the new tower to the TV through the HDMI port and I did not get a picture, next I connected it to the TV through the VGA port with a supplied adapter and was able to get a great picture but zero sound. I tried using my friend's Bose sound system which he uses with his PC and still no sound. I also tried just using the TV speakers (without the surround system) and nothing. Next I tried using Auxillary cables to connect to the TV...no sound. Can someone please offer any insight on this issue? Needless to say, it's very frustrating. Thanks!

I realize that, but any idea why the HDMI is not working? I'm not getting a picture when I try to connect it.

1. What the heck's a hard drive tower?

2. You may be on the wrong input channel on your Reciever box/TV to get HDMI working.

3. Your system may not be set up to get sound over HDMI working for straight HDMI to HDMI.
