Your thoughts on the Civil War

So I want to know your thoughts about the Civil War. Not which side you support, but what you think about the war itself.

I think that it's stupid, the stormcloaks are wasting the empire supplies and increasing the chances of the elves winning.

I think the war is unecessary, and it's more of a lose-lose situation than anything. The war is only making the situation more difficult for the empire, with the Stormcloaks attacking the imperial legion, who represents the foundation of it all.

Skyrim is kicking the empire while it's down, and I think their reasons for it are stupid. They should stand together and battle the Thalmor instead.

Pretty much this. This is the worst possible time for a civil war when a major war is upcoming and inevitable. The Empire and the Stormcloaks need to put their differences aside and tackle the Thalmor together. The THalmor is the root of the entire Civil War, and if they would just take the fight to them, all the Stormcloaks problems would disappear. There would be no Talos ban, the WGC would be null and void and everything can be just the way it was.

Ultimately, I think the second war is going to be quite interesting. I'm curious to see how Bethesda will go around it.

I can understand the motives of both sides, but the war is a waste of resources the Thalmor is the real enemy and the empire using resources in a war is just what they would want. The Empire is wasting their time and energy and I don't know how far ahead Ulfric is planning, but after he's king then what. And if the Empire should conquer Skyrim they still have to win the people, and looking at the Nords love for Talos that would probably be even harder than winning the war.

It's history. It's adolescence. It's life. It makes sense that one group is seeking to get out from under the control of another group - they are trying to separate and declare their independence. No shame there. It was why I supported the Stormcloaks my first couple of playthroughs. There's an appeal to rebellion and establishing an independent state - a lot of us felt the same way as teenagers - it's like, leave me alone, get the **** off my case, and let me do it my way. Hell, it's how growth and change occur - break down the old and make way for the new. It's not always for the better in the end, but it's an important part of the journey. Question authority! Unfortunately, IMO, too many people just go with the flow, conform, and accept what they are fed by their governments and the media. People become sheep. Fear keeps people down; it takes a lot of courage to stand up and separate yourself from the herd. Unfortunately, in this game, the rebels are led by a racist of sorts (IMO) and that kinda kills the whole vibe I was trying to ride, but that topic's been beaten to death on these boards, so again, it's just my opinion...

I can understand Nords getting angry for the Empire's decisions with dealing with the Aldmeri Dominion (banning Talos really wrestled their jimmies), but taking their anger out on the Empire really isn't doing much help. Causing more damage for man while the Thalmor sit back and watch the show. Sure, the Stormcloaks wanting independence is something, but they're only doing it because of the Thalmor pretty much being in control of what the Empire does. Back when the Empire was in its glory days, everything was fine for the provinces until the Oblivion Crisis.

The Empire needs Skyrim just as much as Skyrim needs the Empire. Alone, they cannot fend off the Aldmeri Dominion for long. Fighting each other is just making things worse. What some aren't seeing once the Dominion are delt with, Nords will have their rights back to worship Talos, and not have their families taken from their homes and killed. But, it's understandable why the Nords want to stand up against the Empire, because they aren't doing anything to stop the Thalmor. But the Empire can't do anything about it, the Thalmor have the Empire on it's knees.

There is nothing wrong with the Skyrim wanting independence, but they only started want independence because of the Thalmor being in control. Nothing was wrong with the Empire before. And it's worse for them to start a rebellion at a time where all of of Man needs to stand together against the Aldmeri Dominion, not fight each other.
