Does Bethesda Deserve Our Continued Support?

Post » Mon Jul 30, 2012 8:47 am

Bethesda, who's roots lie with PC, have made it extremely clear that they prefer Xbox to any other platform. That's fine, but it is unprofessional that they release sloppy work on the PS3, and even more unprofessional to blame the console as an excuse. Timed exclusivity is also insulting, but going beyond the announced exclusive period is downright disrespectful. That says they'd rather not have any customers on PC and PS3. So if you are a fan, not just of Elder Scrolls but RPGs in general, and you play on PC and/or PS3, I think it is in your best interest to discontinue your support of Bethesda, and find another open-ended RPG to your liking, and then support the developers of that game instead. That is how consumers get what they want out of a capitalist market, they punish companies for grievances by withholding money. Angry emails, even posts on public forums like this one are meaningless if people go to the store and give Bethesda their cash. The only way Bethesda is going to understand that they are doing a terrible job is if they release Dawnguard on PC and PS3 and it flops. So please, unless you like this kind of treatment, Elder Scroll fans on PC and PS3, move on. Move on and don't come back.

There is no other open-ended RPG to my liking.

Not geared towards people actually not buying their future games. Don't tell me where to post

The topic of that thread is not specifically boycotting Bethesda

He's just a troll.
No, the trolls are saying "We have no news" and "You shouldn't expect news" over and over. I'm an action-oriented individual. They need to feel their errors in their pocketbooks and change or they need to fail so someone can move into their place.

So I take it you have reacted in similar fashions to other companies who indulge in exclusivity deals?

Just a bit of a heads up boycotts are not allowed on these forums.

At least the other companies actually release the content right after the exclusivity period.

Name an timed-exclusivity deal 30 days long that then went beyond the time period the deal was for without any news. And if you can, then find out how well the game ran on the platforms for which it was released. Then check out their PR. I have a feeling Bethesda ranks pretty low.
The concepts of their games are brilliant though, the scenery gorgeous, and I find the gameplay rewarding WHEN THE GAME WORKS. But as long as they know they can make money of shoddy work and even more money off insulting timed-exclusivity deals because they know their customers will just bend over and take it, a smoothly-running, timely released Elder Scrolls game will always be a thing of the imagination.

That would hold a lot more water had they ever actually said they were going to do so.
