Shouldn't this be on the Technical issues board?

You do need a bit more RAM, but it will probably run. Just get some more RAM, because Skyrim is a resource hog. RAM is one of the more cheaper parts of a PC, and if you are using a laptop, you still can put in more or upgrade the RAM set. I should know. I saw my dad take apart my old laptop because my copy of Morrowind was stuck in it.

Steam will choose the settings it thinks will be good for you. I actually am recommended to use low graphics, but my computer actually is more able to run with medium settings with a few tweaks to the medium default. Not any big tweaks, just messing with the start up menu's graphic options.

4 gigs is what the game recommends, in fact. That is what it was supposed to use at launch, but it ended up having to get that problem patched. It has tons of performance issues on lower end PCs and low-medium PCs, so keep that in mind. If you want to know how I got mine to run smoother, I'll PM the mods to you. You should also check and see if AMD has any tweaking settings on their site.
