You can't explore outside you're factions territory?

Post » Wed Aug 01, 2012 3:00 am

This game is just setting itself up for disaster isn't it? It sets itself apart from a wowclone mmo because of the action based combat with blocking/sword fighting like we have seen in other elder scrolls games while it retains a MMORPG like feel since you can use certain abilities. But not being able to explore outside you're factions territory is a terrible idea and I will not play this game if they stick to this. This alone would eliminate any concept of World PVP. I don't wanna feel the need to make a new character just to see other parts of the game.

this games main aspect is Pvp, each character level within their faction sone and battle the other faction players in the province of Cyrodiil. Pvp will be restricted to cyrodiil.

World of Warcraft has faction zones. I felt it added to the replay value, myself. I enjoyed making characters to see "the other side."

I agree. I don't like being ripped apart by strong players on sight once I enter there territory.

Exploring enemy faction zones to adds to the lore and realism of the game, if the Aldmeri Dominion and the Ebonhart Pact are at war why limit their conflict to one measly province? That's not war. Sure, taking the Imperial City is their primary objective. But in WWII the Allies didn't spend the entire war trying to get to Berlin, there was battles everywhere.

Let us sleuth around enemy territories. If players are feeling bold enough, let them send raiding parties. WoW did it years and years ago, so can Bethesda.

Yea so you can't enter enemy territory, that is very stupid. These factions are at war, why limit this to only being able to fight in certain zones? Are they so obsessed with Lore that they can't let it go? They should just have different realms that focus more on PVP with these limits and others that do not.

It should be noted that we have been told that many of our personal story elements will take place in private instances. There is nothing that says these instances cannot be based on areas in another faction's terrirory. And even if it doesn't launch with missions like that, nothing will stop them from adding them later.

What they do not want is members of rival factions constantly wandering freely in each other's open territory. I would imagine that any strong country or alliance will secure its borders. The factions are not at war with each other over a desire to conquer all of Tamriel. They are at war over the throne. But they are not going to just sit idly by and let citizens of a rival alliance just wander into their territory. I expect to see NPCs of races that belong to other factions in any given faction's provinces, but I expect that they will be in the minority of that territory's population.

Our story could take us potentially anywhere in Tamriel. If a nord gets a chapter that takes him into Hammerfell, a Redguard should get an equivilant chapter that takes him into Skyrim for a similar reason. In this way, we could get to see the world as whatever race we choose, but with the corresponding faction's perspective and purposes...

The Aldmeri Dominion and Ebonhart Pact are not at war with each other in terms of wiping each other our and seizing each others' territory. They are at war over the throne of the Empire. Granted, they don't particularly like each other, but they are not out to invade each others' homelands. Each faction will have secured its borders to turn back people who do not belong. If figure that the relations between factions in their own right would be like a cold war, fought with exonomies and diplomatic posturing more than with swords and soldiers. The military conflict would be over the throne. And even then those battling outside the borders of the alliance territory need not be praised by the governing bodies of the alliance. The leader of the Ebonhart Pact may not want any part of taking Cyrodiil for himself, but has committed troops to the effort to keep the White Gold Tower out of the hands of the other factions.

This sort of approach they are taking allows them to play out multiple political paths for each faction, internally and externally...

Cyrodiil is more than just a "measly" province. According to the maps shown at E3 its land mass is equal to if not greater than then each factions area. Its in the center of the game world.

Besides I don't think its been 100% confirmed that you can't go to other faction lands. There won't be any quests or anything for you to do there but I'd be surprised if there's absolutely no way to get to an enemy factions land.

Well one thing is for sure, they need a World vs World like gameplay mode that Guild Wars 2 has.

No they don't.

That is what Cyrodiil is far. All three factions will be engaging in RvR (faction and objective based PvP) there.

TESO will be using an ongoing RvR war that never ends, GW2 is using RvR-lite that ends after 2 weeks then starts afresh.

In most other games i tend to roll on the PvE ruleset servers, as my previous experience with PvP servers shows that 1/10 players exploring opposing faction zones is there to look around and maybe find a fair fight, the other 9/10 are there to gank/corpsecamp lower level players.

So Cryodiil is intended to be a huge epic pvp battle? Still, I would rather have the option to play Arena pvp on instanced maps and a variety of bigger open world pvp battles. WorldvsWorld in Guild Wars 2 is going to be great because they will release more maps so there will be a large variety of pvp content but constantly fighting in Cyrodiil might get boring after a while.
