Hi, I'm a Dark Elf and was on my way to Markarth when I saw some Aldmeri s h i t sticks. I engaged them because my character does not believe in their oppressive cause. When I got to the outskirts of Markarth, a city guard attacked me for no reason. I tried to run into Markarth to pay a bounty or whatever and they just tried to kill me. They didn't give me a chance to surrender.

What did I do?

You attacked the Thalmor. Markarth is Imperial controlled. If you initiated dialogue with 'em about worshipping Talos, they would've attacked you first with no bounty.

Ususally killing Thalmor agents and Justiciars out on the trail usually aren't crimes held against you by cities. Then again Markarth might be different, so I'm not entirely sure.

How much is your bounty?

- Load a previous Save
- Speak to them first
- Annoy them into taking the first swing
- Defend yourself and wipe the road with their pointed ears
- Self defense incurs no bounty

Yes, and then drag their bodies to the nearest river and watch them float away.

Nothing before I killed the city guard who attacked me for no reason. There were no witnesses either. Will they only try to kill me if I try and go back? Will they let me go to jail or pay my bounty? How do I fix this? My auto saves don't let me go back that far.
